Speedy deletion of "WELV-LP"
A page you created, WELV-LP, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a club or other organization, but it does not indicate how it is important or significant, and thus why it should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for organizations in particular.
You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.
Thank you. Jamesofur (talk) 04:42, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- I removed the CSD template as the page obviously isn't a club and of course radio stations are notable. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 05:59, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Call signs and FCC data
I noticed on your latest radio station article (great job, btw) that you linked to the archive version of the Origins list. The most current version of Bob's complete data is at http://nelson.oldradio.com/origins.html and the big list of call signs is at http://nelson.oldradio.com/origins.call-list.html
On a semi-related note, you can use the status date (or, in the case of transfers, the consummation date) to fill in the "date" parameter in references from the FCC website. It's more useful to the reader than the access date and it keeps all the FCC links from looking the same to the naked eye. - Dravecky (talk) 07:12, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up — I'll make note of those points on the little checklist I've built for myself. Radiofan's script is still doing the heavy lifting, but I'm enjoying poking around in the FCC site to pull out the licensing history that the script doesn't capture. The reference to the archive is his though, so I'll pass that fix along. Mlaffs (talk) 12:52, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Just a Note
I know you use the Template:Official in your edits for the "Official Website" line in radio station infoboxes. It appears the template is up for deletion. Not saying you should vote, not vote or anything, just letting you know. Take Care...NeutralHomer • Talk • 02:37, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Just wanted to let you know that all the information for WVMR-AM and its sister stations can be found under Allegheny Mountain Radio. WVMR-AM is the lead station in the Allegheny Mountain Radio Network, a radio network in the "quiet zone" around the Green Bank Telescope. With most of the information for the stations could be fit into one page (they were individual pages previously), I put them into one group page. Worked out alot better :) Take Care...NeutralHomer • Talk • 23:23, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw the combined article, although I didn't realize they'd been separate previously. Since I've learned so much more since the last time, I'm doing another walk through the database. One thing that I think I did wrong last time was that I was too lax by not marking a station as being missing if there was a redirect for it to somewhere else, so I'm trying to correct that now. Doesn't mean they'll necessarily get created; just a notation that the station itself doesn't have an article, right or wrongly. Given the explanation above, these ones will probably end up coming back off in the end. Mlaffs (talk) 23:33, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, there was a little discussion on going for the combined article, so I took about an hour and went for it. Then the network added three other stations in an application open with the FCC, so it made the combined article an even better idea. I did link to it via redirects, so the callsigns will not show up as redlinks. If you need a list of the redirects, let me know and I will get them for ya so you can add them to the list for now. Take Care...NeutralHomer • Talk • 23:46, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
B.O.L.O.
Be on the lookout for this user who is attempting to create radio station pages. He seems to be new and needs some help on them. The ones he made this evening, KTWA, WCEZ, and WGVV-LP, are sub sub sub-stub at the moment. If you want to take a crack at them, feel free. If you are heading off for the night I can. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 04:21, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- Wouldn't mind if you took a crack at them — not sure how much longer I'll be going, and I'm right in the middle of something else I'd like to wrap up for as long as I do last. Mlaffs (talk) 05:08, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- I actually forgot to message you back. A couple of them got deleted, I had to get them back and clean them up before they would be allowed back permanently...they were that bad. So, all is well now. If you need any help with what you are doing, let me know. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 05:17, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Question For Ya
Like you have done here on the WRVA article, wouldn't it be better to have the statewide category and the metro/regional category on the page? - NeutralHomer • Talk • 03:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:WPRS#Geographical — use the city-level category if it exists, or the state-level category otherwise, but never both together. Apart from a project recommendation, I think that's a general standard, not to use multiple categories at different levels of the same tree. Mlaffs (talk) 03:58, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Okie Dokie that makes sense. Any of the Virginia ones are all my work, so that is my goof. I put both so they would fall under both categories, both the metro/regional and the state for easy checking. My goof, my apologizes :S - NeutralHomer • Talk • 04:06, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- No worries — I'm learning something new every time I turn around here! Mlaffs (talk) 04:11, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
radio station stub tool
made a few updates on User:RadioFan/radio station stub tool and moved the script as well. A couple of questions there about some of the bullets. Please respond there.--RadioFan (talk) 21:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
KBLP
When updating a radio station article due to a format flip or ownership change, please move the old logo to the history section rather than just remove it. Logos are an important part of the history of the stations. Also please update the history section with whatever information is avialable about the change.--RadioFan (talk) 14:02, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'd hope that I would do that — that didn't appear to be the case with this station, though. In the original article that was created, the link for the station's website was actually only for a separate site that they run for their sports coverage, and the logo was the one from that site. It looked like the station itself had actually always been country, and sports was just another chunk of what they're programming. Mlaffs (talk) 22:15, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Not a Barn...
The Working Wikipedian's Barnstar | |
For creating some 20+ and counting radio station articles today, I hereby award you this barnstar. Keep up the good work. Congrats! - NeutralHomer • Talk • 04:20, 24 August 2009 (UTC) |
- Thanks, but if you're basing this on the removals from the missing articles list tonight, those (and many others) were all created by User:RadioFan over the last couple of days. I'm just coming in behind to do some touch-ups, and then remove them from the list. This star is rightfully his. Mlaffs (talk) 04:26, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I will give him one too. Barnstars for everyone :) - NeutralHomer • Talk • 04:32, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Posted. They look the same, so it won't get confusing :) Take Care...NeutralHomer • Talk • 04:34, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

A Quick Note
When adding a website from ABC Radio, like realcountryonline.com, add "home.asp?callsign=WFWL-AM" (change the callsign per each station) at the end and if the station subscribes to the ABC Radio webserver, it will come up with the station's callsign, frequency, logo, etc. That link is the official link for that station :) A little thing I picked up :) - NeutralHomer • Talk • 19:34, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- You mean the cookie it leaves on my machine doesn't transfer to everyone else on the magical interweb? ;>) Neat tip — thanks! I'll make a note in my book. Mlaffs (talk) 19:52, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Nope, you actually have to enter the full URL for everyone to see it. Kinda tricky at times, but a fun trick :) - NeutralHomer • Talk • 23:39, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
