KJOI-LP Biola/Fresno

Put correct article about station back on WIKI - Kingoffreetv (talk) 09:17, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)@Kingoffreetv: What happened was KJOU-LP, a television station, switched callsigns from KJOI-LP. One unintentional goof later, and a radio station page was cleared to make way for a television station page. It happens, we aren't all perfect. :) I recreated the KJOI-LP page, so it's all back to normal. - NeutralhomerTalk10:31, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
Nice work creating the article, NH. I don't think there ever was an article for the radio station before, since it's so newly-licensed. If there had been, I would have done a swap when I moved the TV station. Mlaffs (talk) 13:25, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
If I am not mistaken, there was, but it was very poorly done, and it was on my list of things to update. I was, admittedly, guessing at what might have happened. :) Without the page history, I wasn't 100% sure. No worries though, it all got worked out in the end. :) - NeutralhomerTalk21:28, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of FM radio stations in the United States by call sign (initial letters WD–WF), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Woodlawn, Virginia. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Request for Review

When you get a few free minutes, would you mind giving the WBCM-LP page a once-over? Not looking for a GA or FA quality review, just to see if I missed anything, spelling, templates, punctuation and the like. Thanks in advance...NeutralhomerTalk01:16, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm just in the middle of looking at some long-messed-up renames, so this was a welcome diversion. :>)
Just a few small changes - no errors that weren't common. Only one change that I'd suggest that I didn't make, because it would have involved removing a reference. I wouldn't include the current call sign in the "Former callsigns" section. I've noticed that a couple of times on your edits - my inclination is keep the purpose of that field pure.
Otherwise, nice work. Not sure if I've said it before, but you've really grown on the article creation side. You're almost Dravecky-ish with the referencing at this point (which, as you know, is the highest of compliments). Mlaffs (talk) 01:31, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the review, much appreciated. I don't think anyone could be as good as Dravecky at references, but I appreciate the compliment. :)
I add the current callsign to the list just to be thorough, but I do understand your point and won't be upset in the least if it is removed, so no worries there. I actually used the callsign reference again in the article, so it wouldn't be completely removed.
Thanks, I have been working with Dravecky, Wehwalt, you and others and have been trying to do better in article creation. :) Thanks again for the review. Take Care...NeutralhomerTalk01:38, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject Kentucky tagging

Thank you for your tagging of articles for Wikipedia:WikiProject Kentucky. Please note that {{WikiProject Kentucky}} is deprecated and we now use {{WikiProject United States|KY=yes|KY-importance=}}. Cheers! Stevie is the man! TalkWork 08:52, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up, @Stevietheman:; looking at {{WikiProject United States}}, it appears that only 25 out of the 50 states are supported as parameters. How does anyone who does tagging keep track of that? And for situations where someone uses a deprecated state tag like Kentucky's, is there a bot that's coming in behind to clean that up, or does it have to be done manually? Mlaffs (talk) 11:06, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
Well, just about that many states were incorporated into the WP:US project, while the other state projects likely refused. (This happened several years ago now.) You can usually keep track by looking at the state's project page and the tag they show to use; WikiProject Kentucky's main page shows the WP:US tag. A bot may eventually clean them up, but I usually beat them with a run of AWB. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 13:41, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

Question for ya, do you think the WBCM-LP page would meet GAN standards? - NeutralhomerTalk00:26, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm honestly not all that familiar with that process - I've never been involved. Reading through the criteria, seems like it might be worth trying. Only strike against it might be the lack of images, although the infobox logo could qualify. Looks like there's a pretty healthy backlog, though, so be prepared to be patient if you do nominate it. :>) Mlaffs (talk) 00:44, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
Last time I did a GAN, it took a month and a half from beginning to end. So no worries there. I wish we had a Bristol, Virginia/Tri-Cities editor who could get me a couple shots of the studios. Though I doubt they would spring for the $12.00 entry fee just to get one picture of the studios...unless they were country music fans. :) I am waiting for something to pop up on Flickr. - NeutralhomerTalk01:43, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
Is there contact info on their website? Maybe reach out and see if they have any photos themselves they'd be willing to release under CC? Even a shot of the museum would fit really nicely in there. Mlaffs (talk) 01:47, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
It's worth a shot. I will email the museum, which owns the station, and see what they have. Probably won't hear anything back until Monday, though. - NeutralhomerTalk01:51, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
Just sent off an email, complete with a link to the article. Now...we wait! :) - NeutralhomerTalk01:56, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
