~KvnG 22:04, 4 February 2014 (UTC)Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Mukund Varadarajan - WP:CASTEID, WP:V
[edit]Per WP:CASTEID, there is a clear consensus against including the caste of persons in biographies, if the caste doesn't have any impact on the person's life. And even in this case, there needs to be self-identification, which is reported by reliable sources per the biography of living people policy. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 14:27, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- This person is not living. There is intentionality here that is removing his caste from every media possible while clearly the person's lineage is well known fact. Why is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periyar this article has Balija Community ?? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C._N._Annadurai How is Annadurai belonging to Senkunthar caste is relevent then? I dare you to edit those and remove that. Apply the rules evenly OR revert the changes to include this person's caste. Msathia (talk) 15:32, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Any well known fact must be published in reliable sources to be added to Wikipedia. Just because it is well-known is not enough, according to Wikipedia policies. The other articles you mentioned all have multiple reliable sources backing their claims. But, here you are attempting to imply caste information based on his father's name, which is considered synthesis of published material on Wikipedia and is strictly not allowed. - So all 136.60.6.89 (talk) 15:46, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- so you just need a reference material. But I will find it and add it. I do not know why you are the czar of this. But I will follow the "norms" :) Msathia (talk) 15:48, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
