Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Martinp (talk) 16:45, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

MuseCPA447, I saw your query [1] on Wugapodes' talk page when I came to leave him a message on his talk page. Seeing no-one has welcomed you here, I have done so above. Your specific question was "I have loads of useful information about people who are making positive changes in the world. How do I submit this information to Wikipedia?" If you have such information without conflict of interest, please follow the guidance above. We encourage your contributions, empasizing the importance of WP:NPOV and sourcing on edits regarding living people (see WP:BLP) in particular. If the "people" you mention have articles already, feel free to edit those articles in line with these policies, or ask first on the article talk page if you feel uncertain.

Wikipedia also has a problem with "spam", with attempts to add promotional material about individuals by those affiliated with them, or paid by them, in particular. Or to create promotionally-intended pages about individuals who do not meet our notability standards (see WP:NOTABILITY). The wording of your question does raise suspicions, possibly misplaced, that this might be your underlying intent. If there is any chance of this, please read WP:COI and the section on paid editing there in particular. In brief, if you do have a conflict of interest, or are being paid for edits in particular, there are restrictions on what you can do and obligations to disclose -- and frankly, you will not find Wikipedia to be a welcoming place to do this.

This also means that irrespective of explicit conflict of interest, it is deliberately a bit challenging to create (and not have summarily deleted) new articles about individuals. There are requirements on sourcing, neutrality, and no conflict of interest that are quite stringent. You can find pointers in the plethora of links above; and as a new user, you will likely find it helpful to follow the suggestions at Wikipedia:Drafts.

While all of this sounds a bit off-putting, a genuine welcome and encouragement to contribute: just tempered a bit by the unfortunate pattern recognition of the wording of your question, which sets off alarm bells regarding promotional editing. Martinp (talk) 17:00, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
