November 2022[edit]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Matthew Daniels. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Note on editing[edit]

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I'm writing because a lot of the changes you have made recently to Matthew Daniels may need to be reversed; examples including removing sourcing without explanation (here, for example Special:Diff/1124809767) and adding content that appears to be potentially promotional. Please note that if you are are affiliated with Daniels in any way, you are very strongly advised against editing the article directly; rather, you should discuss and request specific changes on the article's talk page. WhinyTheYounger (WtY)(talk, contribs) 21:06, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

These are not promotional materials, only factual information. Deleting Matthew Daniels' current position and professional career information, area of expertise and academic teachings/university classes is not helpful to this page. Your previous commentary of Daniels' not being the founder of Human Liberty is an inaccuracy, you can reference this link of which I will cite instead, per your request.:https://humanliberty.org/about/. These are not any form of advertising/promotions but a documentation of a collection of works. NPL2022 (talk) 18:17, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Factual information can be promotional; Wikipedia is intended to be an encyclopedia, and not an indiscriminate collection of information. One of Wikipedia's core content policies is the writing of verifiable information, defined as information derived from reliable sources. Sources that are affiliated with the subject are primary sources, and their use is limited. We focus on what is written in independent, reliable, secondary coverage first and foremost, all else being equal. That is why it is inappropriate to remove the reference to Daniels as an activist against same-sex marriage: that is by far what he is most known for, and received the most non-primary-source coverage for. As for promotionalism, note that a lot of the content in your most recent edit is highly subjective. Including an entire section on women's rights and claiming that Daniels has written extensively on the threats to women’s rights worldwide is a very subjective and comes off as promotional — particularly because the only citation is an op-ed by him. For a statement like "XYZ is an expert on _______" or "XYZ is a widely cited author on _______", one must find reliable, independent sources that make that claim.
I have reversed your most recent edit. Again, please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's editing guidelines, norms, and etiquette. This includes declaring if you have a conflict of interest in your editing. Refer also to MOS:PUFFERY for more context on what is or is not acceptable in a biography of a living person. December 2022[edit]

Information icon Hi NPL2022! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Matthew Daniels several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Matthew Daniels, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. — Manticore 02:58, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Manticore, I do understand your feedback this is the first reversion completed this way. Every other one has in fact been completely manually. I am aware there are restrictions in place from doing this several times over, but I do appreciate the warning. There have already been two editors set in creating an edit war and keep doing a reversion back to previous edits several times over despite a manual effort on this end. You have been invited to discuss your contributions on the article talk page, but have so far declined to do so. This is a collaborative project, and it is clear that others do not agree with the changes you are making to this article. Please read WP:BRD and WP:EW so you understand our policies and your obligations in these situations.
Your singular focus on editing this article suggests you have a personal connection to the individual. What is your relationship with Matthew Daniels? — Manticore 21:31, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
