Nicholas Roth is listed in the article "Classical pianists (recorded)". It seems appropriate to provide a short biographical article to further identify him. Some minor changes have been made to the article in an effort to strike a more neutral tone. The changes are noted in the edit summary. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Naroth (talk • contribs) 08:34, 17 May 2007.
Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. Have you read Wikipedia's guideline on autobiography (Wikipedia:Autobiography) and conflict of interest (Wikipedia:Conflict of interest)? --Rrburke(talk) 14:03, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- If the article on Nicholas Roth is somehow inappropriate, please delete it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Naroth (talk • contribs) 11:22, 17 May 2007.
- The article itself is not necessarily inappropriate, provided that it satisfies the notability criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (music). The problem arises if the article is autobiographical (see Wikipedia:Autobiography) or if its creator has a conflict of interest (see: Wikipedia:Conflict of interest). If neither of these applies to this article, and the subject satisfies the notability criteria, there's nothing inappropriate about the article. It was the similarity between the name of the subject of the article and your username that altered me to the possible problem.
- As well, in case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --Rrburke(talk) 16:04, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
The article is in fact autobiographical. After reading the guidelines, I was under the impression that if the content were factual or neutral in nature, then an autobiographical article was not objectionable. With the three solo commercial recordings and distinction in several national and international music competitions, I believe the notability requirement for submission is satisfied. Nonetheless, if I have misunderstood the guidelines and have submitted an inappropraite article, I have no objection to its being deleted. Thank you. Naroth 16:41, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- That an article about you exists is not at all inappropriate; in fact, it's desirable, because I'd say at first blush that you easily meet the notability requirements. The problem is who should write the article: that's where the Wikipedia:Autobiography and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest problems arise.
- Give me some time to find some secondary sources, and I'll take a crack at rewriting the article from scratch, so as to avoid running afoul of Wikipedia:Autobiography and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. How's that?
- As long as I have your ear, Wikipedia is in great need of people with expertise to contribute to articles. If you have time, please consider looking at Wikipedia's Music Portal to see if you'd be interested in contributing to anything in the list of topics. Consider joining WikiProject Classical music, WikiProject Composers or other WikiProjects, or simply editing any of the articles listed in the Category:Classical music or any of its subcategories, or in Category:Classical composers or any of its subcategories -- or, indeed, any topic at all that might interest you.

I appreciate your offer to help with my article and I would certainly accept any assistance you can manage. Although grateful for your invitation to become more involved in the other Wikipedia services you listed, time is at a premium these days so I will have to decline. Once again, I appreciate your consideration and look forward to reading the revised article. Thank you. Naroth 21:57, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
