[edit]Hello, I'm Waxworker. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Bird Paradise, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Waxworker (talk) 06:32, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Please do not add or change content, as you did at Bird Paradise, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Waxworker (talk) 07:53, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, I have just updated my species list with cited sources. Apologies for not doing it earlier. Thank you for letting me know of my error. Nathantheasian (talk) 08:15, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Please also see WP:NOTDIR - Wikipedia is not a directory, and a massive list of every bird at the zoo is unnecessary for an encyclopedic understanding of the subject. Waxworker (talk) 08:23, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- If that is so then why is there a list of species in almost every single zoological institute page. Wikipedia is used by many zoologists and wildlife enthusiasts as a fast way of scoping out potential areas of interest. Nathantheasian (talk) 08:40, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Can you give some examples of other articles for zoos that have similarly massive lists? I was unable to find similar examples from a cursory search. Even if other articles have a list of everything at the zoo, it's an excessive amount of detail that should be removed. Waxworker (talk) 08:48, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, Singapore Zoo, Singapore Night Safari, Halls Gap Zoo, Biblical Zoo to name a few. I will remove segments from the list, however species of interest like hornbills, pheasants and birds of prey will stay on there. Nathantheasian (talk) 08:55, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- I would suggest to list the animals with some context similar to San Diego Zoo and Singapore Zoo. Wikipedia do prefer some prose and context over listing as the current format contravene WP:NOTDIRECTORY. While not policy and just an essay, keeping certain things based on other articles have it also tend to have poor outcomes.
- At least dividing the long list of species into columns similar to Night Safari, Singapore will help in readability. About 70% of the screen is filled with species which make readability very poor. JASWE (talk) 09:12, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
