Tips
- Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
- It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
- If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
- Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
- When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
- If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
- Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.
Happy editing! Cheers, Wham2001 (talk) 10:15, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- I'm glad to see you diving in to editing Wikipedia, but a lot of your edits are not actually improvements. May I suggest that you slow down a bit and focus on making changes that make the encyclopedia better for readers? In particular, changing from one way of saying something to a synonym is rarely an improvement, and saying the same thing in more words is almost always worse. You may prefer to look for articles where the grammar or spelling is very bad, and focus on improving those instead. Best, Wham2001 (talk) 10:17, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- What Wham2001 said. Also, on biographies, the opening sentence describes what the person is known for. Rewriting it to be when they were born is not Wikipedia style. Dates of birth/death can be included in the lead sentence within parentheses, but those dates are not the point of the sentence and shouldn't have verbs added. Cheers! - A lot of these edits introduced grammar mistakes, made the text harder to read or changed the meaning of the sentence. I have undone these edits, and left your good and neutral edits intact.
- For reference, it's not needed to write "in the year of" in front of a year, or to change bracketed text into full sentences. "Located" is fine, and "found in" is not usually an improvement. If you change one part of the sentence (for example by introducing "who"), don't forget to make sure the rest of it still makes grammatical sense.
- Keep going, just focus on correcting mistakes and improving the flow as you did in your earlier edits, rather than just moving or substituting words. All the best, Turtlecrown (talk) 11:13, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the comment. I apologise for the minor mistakes. I will surely do better. Ozianamayioza (talk) 13:05, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your feedback, Turtlecrown. I appreciate your guidance on how to approach the edits. I understand the importance of maintaining proper grammar, readability, and the original meaning of the text. I'll continue to focus on correcting mistakes and enhancing the text's flow, just as I did in my previous edits. I will refrain from unnecessary changes like adding "in the year of" before a year or converting bracketed text into full sentences. "Located" is acceptable, and I'll be cautious when considering changes like "found in."
- I'll also ensure that any modifications I make to a sentence are consistent with the overall grammatical structure of the text. Your feedback is valuable, and I'm committed to delivering improved edits that align with your expectations. If you have any specific examples or areas you'd like me to pay extra attention to, please feel free to let me know. I'll do my best to provide edits that enhance the text without disrupting its clarity and meaning. Thank you for your guidance and best regards. Ozi Ozianamayioza (talk) 07:40, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for pointing this out. I will do better. Ozianamayioza (talk) 13:06, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your guidance, Schazjmd.
- I appreciate your insights on Wikipedia's style for biographical articles. I will make sure to adhere to the format of describing what a person is known for in the opening sentence. Dates of birth and death, if needed, will be included within parentheses in that sentence without any additional verbs, as they are not the primary focus.
- Your advice is valuable in maintaining the consistency and quality of Wikipedia articles. If you have any more specific recommendations or areas you'd like me to pay attention to, please feel free to share. I'm here to contribute effectively and in line with Wikipedia's style guidelines. Cheers, and thank you for your input! Ozi Ozianamayioza (talk) 07:44, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- I appreciate your constructive feedback. Thanks a lot. I will do better. Ozianamayioza (talk) 13:06, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your guidance, Wham2001. I appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration as I continue to edit Wikipedia. I understand the importance of making meaningful improvements that enhance the encyclopedia's quality for readers.
- I'll make sure to focus on edits that further enhance the content. Your advice about prioritizing articles with poor grammar or spelling is valuable, and I will keep that in mind when choosing which articles to work on.
- I'm committed to contributing positively to Wikipedia and delivering edits that further add value and benefit the community. If you have any specific articles or areas where you think my help could be particularly valuable, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thank you for your guidance, and I look forward to making more meaningful contributions. Best regards. Ozi Ozianamayioza (talk) 07:42, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
