Help me![edit]

Please help me with... I am new to Wikipedia posting. My draft was flagged for its tone and referencing; I need some assistance please. [[1]] Patterson1876 (talk) 12:01, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I would suggest you try reading the links that the decline messages provide. Your draft, while really good for a new user, fails to bring across proper tone, and your sources are weak.
  • Tone - You use terms like "internationally recognized expert in his field". These terms are vacuous, subjective and do not bring much in the way of understanding of the subject and their work. We refer to them as peacock terms. You list memberships in professional organisations, but an average reader cannot meaningfully appreciate what this means. Please remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and it is not a place to present your own or somebody else's professional achievements. These achievements have to stand on their own.
  • Sources - You do not offer much in terms of reliable sources to support your article. At Wikipedia, the gold standard are third party reliable source coverage (see WP:RS). You use primary and secondary sources. While those have a place on Wikipedia, they cannot usually carry an article on their own.
Please try not to get discouraged. Your article is probably 90% there, and needs few more tweaks to get to the state where it is ready to be moved to the mainspace. Please read the links that the reviewer and I offered, and incorporate the advice into your draft. If you just clean up the tone a little bit (more neutral, less promotional) and find some third party reliable sources, your article is very likely to be approved when you resubmit it.
