Article edits

[edit]

Hello User:Pmedward: I understand from your user page that you are supervising a group of students doing a project involving Wikipedia. I just wanted to bring to your attention that some of these students are adding comments to articles, such as this edit to "Compair Jet and this edit to "Darts". I reverted both as vandalism, since they were incomprehensible as additions to the article itself and very illiterate in nature. I have to admit that initially I thought we were dealing with English-as-a-second-language-content-vandalism until I tracked your project down. Perhaps you could ask them to stop doing that to articles? I have also removed a bunch of additions to article talk pages, such as this one and this one. Aside from the poor grammar and punctuation, I don't think they belong on the article talk pages as they are not contributing to the improvement of the article. I removed those ones as WP:NOTBLOG. Should these not be on a project page instead or perhaps collected off Wikipedia altogether? Thank you for your consideration of this matter. - Ahunt (talk) 22:56, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can only agree. The items on the Darts talk page confused me enormously at first, and to the point where I queried it with an admin. It is not the correct place to dump content/commentary such as this.
As an aside, the comments at the talk page were not even close to being reasonable assessments of the article! Not my problem if it is off-site/off-page, but this was the reason why I felt obliged to reply to their postings in the first instance. What a waste of my time that was. - Sitush (talk) 09:04, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Despite your lack of response here I wanted to let you know that some of your students are still causing disruptions. In particular I had to correct a lot of uncited, inaccurate, poorly written and off-topic text, full of spelling and grammar errors added to Comp Air Jet. Fixing these sort of problems created by your students is detracting from other useful work, such as article creation. - Ahunt (talk) 17:55, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]

Hello Pmedward, There has been a discussion started here regarding a class project that you may be interested or involved in. You may want to make some adjustments as to how your students are evaluating the various articles at the moment, as it seems to be causing some confusion among our editors. Feel free to join in the conversation, and hopefully all will be resolved in short order.

I would also like to mention that you may be interested in the following two links: 1) Wikipedia:Ambassadors/For instructors, and 2) Wikipedia:School and university projects. (Actual credit for finding these links belongs to user Jayron32).
