Further plot cutdowns...

Hello again, I've been trying to cut down the plot of Half-Blood Prince admist other projects, and I have removed some things that weren't mentioned again. However, it looks like there's possibly one big thing to cut out. In the fourth paragraph it says:

Harry spends much of his time following Draco Malfoy for any proof of suspicious actions, though he often cannot find him on his magical map of Hogwarts. Harry realizes that when Draco is not on the map, he is using the Room of Requirement on the seventh floor of Hogwarts, which transforms into whatever its user needs. Harry is unable to gain access to the room unless he knows exactly what Draco is using the room for.

Draco is actually letting Death Eaters in through the Room of Requirement which is revealed at the end when they come into the Astronomy tower--but this is not mentioned at the end of the plot summary. I'm sure this could go with other things, too. How much dare I cut out for it to still make sense? Glimmer721 ^talk 22:04, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

The only answer to that is with a question: How necessary is that info to the plot? In all honesty, I believe the plot has been cut to nearly the most concise it can be for a 600/650 page book with lots of action. If you feel like there are parts of it not necessary to understanding the plot of the book or series, then cut them. But if not, don't force info out. Of course, this is only my opinion and if you get strong disagreement from others, listen to them. PrincessofLlyr ^{royal court} 01:05, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Draco and the Room of Requirement is very important to the plot, but it's not mentioned again in the summary. I think I'm just going to leave it the way it is and work on a condensed version in my sandbox just in case the GA reviewer wants a shorter version. I definitely think it's good for GA. Practically any of the things I noticed on another review were stylistic, although my eye is probably not as fresh as a reviewer's might be. At the very least I think you would get a hold to correct issues, but almost definitely not a straight fail. I hope! PrincessofLlyr ^{royal court} 17:55, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Princess. I've been discussing the inclusion of a certain external link in Abandoned pets with another user, User:Hearfourmewesique, and though I'm completely confident in what I've told him, the discussion doesn't seem to be going anywhere, and I'd appreciate your thought as an uninvolved editor. (I'd prefer you respond here... the user seems to have a history of being rather confrontational, and I don't want to be accused of canvassing or something)(also, no I haven't visited the link in question, but the website address tells me enough, in my opinion). You have every right to be confident in your stance. Hearfourmewesique is clearly POV and wrapped up in the cause. All of the policy you have pointed out is correct. In addition, you could try pointing out that IAR only applies when it will improve WP. Advancing a cause doesn't apply. Of course, there's no guarantee that point would make any difference. As devil's advocate, in my opinion, if you were going to add external links, it should be ASPCA or the US Humane Society, which are the bigger organizations. But once again, you get into that endless loop, so I'm not really suggesting that. Overall, it is a positive thing that the two of you are talking about this and not edit-warring. Online Ambassadors: Time to join pods

Hello! If you're planning to be an active Online Ambassador for the upcoming academic term, now is the time to join one or more pods. (A pod consists of the instructor, the Campus Ambassadors, and the Online Ambassadors for single class.) The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) explains the expectations for being part of a pod as an Online Ambassador. (The MOU for pods in Canada is essentially the same.) In short, the role of Online Ambassadors this term consists of:

• Working closely with the instructor and Campus Ambassadors, providing advice and perspective as an experienced Wikipedian
• Helping students who ask for it (or helping them to find the help they need)
• Watching out for the class as a whole
• Helping students to get community feedback on their work

This replaces the 1-on-1 mentoring role for Online Ambassadors that we had in previous terms; rather than being responsible for individual students (some of whom don't want or help or are unresponsive), Online Ambassadors will be there to help whichever students in their class(es) ask for help.

You can browse the upcoming courses here: United States; Canada. More are being added as new pods become active and create their course pages.

Once you've found a class that you want to work with—especially if you some interest or expertise in the topic area—you should sign the MOU listing for that class and get in touch with the instructor. We're hoping to have at least two Online Ambassadors per pod, and more for the larger classes.

If you're up for supporting any kind of class and would like me to assign you to a pod in need of more Online Ambassadors, just let me know.
