February 2017[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "QuillDigital", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it's the name of the companuy yu promoted. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you.

Information icon Hello, QuillDigital. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Quill Corporation, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Kleuske (talk) 15:22, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Thank you. - GB fan 15:57, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I was only trying to help and just joined the community. I wanted to add more credibility to the context of this company as well as expand all the information about it that I have recently discovered. Rawseo (talk) 20:21, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Nope, with phrases like "The site has so far received over 7500 ideas and climbing!" you were looking only to promote your customer. To be unblocked, you need to stop lying and start with disclosing whom are you working for. Max Semenik (talk) 20:44, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I simply went to their quill ideas page and saw it there..... http://ideas.quill.com/customer Take a look. I'm not making it up - nor do I have any internal information.

  • It is abundantly clear that your purpose here is to use Wikipedia for promotion. If you are to be unblocked, as well as offering a new user name to change to you will have to persuade an administrator that your future editing will be very different from what you did in the past, and will not be promotional. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:54, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I did change my username and provided information that my edits were not meant to be promotional but just to be detailed and I am not sure how to persuade an admin.

You can start with a bit of honesty: no way in the history of ever we're gonna believe you're not being paid for what you're doing. Max Semenik (talk) 23:21, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, I see that your user name has been changed, as you say. Since "Raw SEO" is the name of a business which does what its own web site describes as "Writing for the web to get your website on to the front page of Google and other search engines", I assumed that was the user name which had been objected to, but I now see that you previously had a user name which was the name of another company, which says "We produce quality digital content for businesses to use on their websites and social media".
  • I have no doubt that you came here in good faith, believing that using Wikipedia to promote the interests of a client was a legitimate thing to do, and equally I have no doubt that you requested a change of user name to "Rawseo" in good faith, believing, in light of the block message above, that doing so would enable you to carry on editing. However, I'm afraid that there are several problems, for which, under the circumstances, I don't blame you, but I think you should be aware of them.
  1. Wikipedia is not a medium for promotion, advertising, or marketing, "SEO", or any similar purpose, and editing for those purposes is not permitted. Perhaps it would have been more helpful to you if GB fan had given you a block notice which put more emphasis on the issue of promotional editing, rather than one which may have given you the misleading impression that changing your user name was the only thing you needed to do in order to continue editing.
  2. You say that your edits "were not meant to be promotional", but if you can write stuff such as that a business started a service "to give their customers a way to share thoughts and ideas that can make their workday easier and help enhance their experience" without meaning it to be promotional, then you are so unaware to see the nature of your own writing that it questionable whether you will be able to start writing in the neutral way required for Wikipedia. Also, you have given no indication at all that you do not expect to write similar text again if you are unblocked.
  3. I think it was a mistake to accept your renaming, as "Raw SEO" is the name of another company, so that the user name is just as much contrary to Wikipedia policy as your previous user name, "QuillDigital". I don't have the power to change user names, but if I did I would never change a user name to anything containing "SEO" without at the very least checking that it isn't the name of a company, and I am surprised that Céréales Killer accepted the user name change. A user name such as "John Smith at Raw SEO" would be perfectly acceptable, and would have the advantage of transparency, in that it would indicate your connection to a business, without appearing to indicate that the account represents that business rather than an individual person.
I hope those comments clarify the reasons why at present your requests to have your account unblocked are not being accepted, and that they go come way to indicate what kind of changes would be needed for you to be unblocked. Hi, I was mentioned in this thread, then I will give my opinion. Global renamers can not be aware of ALL forbidden names especially if they are not native English speakers. For me, "rawseo" was a nickname than an other... sorry for this misunderstood! I am not a number (talk) 10:51, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
