You shouldn't be editing your own article directly. Make suggestions on the article talk page for uninvolved editors to review. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 22:48, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Men should not be writing or correcting women regarding our work as in fact- quite often important details are left out of descriptions of my work. Rachel Z Hakim (talk) 22:51, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thaddeus Sholto is a character from a novel not my actual name. Wikipedia has strict conflict of interest guidelines but none that restrict editing based on gender. You don't own your own article. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 22:56, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok- are you a vetted writer!?
can you help me here instead of harm.
Ihave been a longtime wiki member and as a public figure I assume I may have control of my career.
correct? Rachel Z Hakim (talk) 23:33, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not harming you or the article. Wikipedia has policies about verifiability and reliable sources as well as strict policies on biographies of living persons. Believe it or not, these policies are here to protect article subjects by insuring that information is accurate and neutral. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 23:58, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok
I’ll try to present these updates in the proper way with the proper documentation in the future. Rachel Z Hakim (talk) 00:27, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest Edit Requests[edit]

Hi @Rachel Z Hakim: How goes it? It appears you have a conflict of interest. From this point forward, I don't think you should edit the Rachel Z article directly. There is a mechanism on Wikipedia called coi edit requests which is defined at WP:EDITREQ which enable you to make an edit request on the article talk page, an uninvolved editor comes along, reviews it and if good, its goes into the article, if not, it doesn't go in. That mechanism disassociates you from the coi and ensure the article remains free of WP:NPOV. If you don't use edit requests and continue editing the article your likely to get page blocked. I intend to copyedit the article as its a WP:BLP and there is parts of it which are unsourced and it will need to go. Every sentence needs a source. When you make ER's you will need to supply good sources to WP:V it correctly. Hope that helps. scope_creepTalk 13:53, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Scope creep @Rachel Z Hakim Hi there, hope it's ok for me to pipe in here and offer some additional peer support, because despite how confusing the policies and rules can be at first, en.wiki is at its heart a big ol' community project!
Scope creep has given a great explanation above of how you (or your publicist) can submit edit requests on the Talk page of your article moving forward- people tend to review those requests pretty quickly from what I've seen. Since the conflict of interest and edit request stuff can all be a lot to process, though, I wanted to offer that you can additionally ping me directly at this username to either review such edit requests, or to just answer questions and explain more about how things work here. I have the free time, and if I can't answer something I'm confident I can show you where we can get the answer from other community members.
I'm still a beginner-to-intermediate editor myself, but with a library science background and a weird passion for rules I've read a lot of the policies 😅 I feel especially well equipped to explain how policies shape what gets included in articles, and what types of sources are accepted. I've still been a bit nervous to start entering formatting sources myself, so helping update your article could help me break through that mental barrier!
While I think some editors understandably bristled at your mention of gender, Rachel, I definitely sympathize with where that comes from. I've often been in male-dominated environments where I'm being talked over as an expert in my field, and it's led me to be sensitive on that topic. Heck, yesterday I was fixing some poor grammar on here and the person whose phrasing I fixed left a facetious essay on my talk page about the basics of programming... which I have taught at a graduate level 😅.
On English Wikipedia we prioritize a value called AGF, or "Assume Good Faith," so I had to just disengage and assume the user *wasn't* explaining Computer Science 101 because of my gender. And en.wiki is somewhat freeing precisely *because* we don't require people to disclose things like gender in order to edit here. But personally I do share openly that I am a queer person who was born female, because visibility can help others feel more confident participating! I see the same example of representation in your awesome accomplishments in music, so I'd love to be a peer you can reach out to with questions.
You are welcome in Wikipedia, 100%, editors just get wary because so many folks come here to basically write ads about themselves. I don't see that motivation in your comments, and I'm sorry if you felt unwelcomed by editors who were being protective of Wikipedia values- as you already acknowledged in one of your comments, it's precisely that caution that protects the encyclopedia overall.
Feel free to ping me any time or come onto my User Talk page if you'd like to follow up. Best wishes and keep rocking! Chiselinccc (talk) 04:28, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
