A tag has been placed on Slmuslims requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. eric dilettante' (mailbox) 13:52, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your article creations

[edit]

Sorry, but I did NOT nominate it for speedy deletion. Unfortunately, another editor felt it fell within the critera of deletion, and it was deleted by an administrator for the listed reason. I reverted your edits becuase you removed a valid SD tag. You may not remove deletions tags posted on your articles that other users has posted. Thanks. If you like, I suggest you look over WP:MoS which is Wikipedia's Manual of Style which states how to correctly publish articles following the proper script. Deletion of Slmuslims

[edit]

This article was tagged for deletion because there was no assertion of WP:NOTABILITY, I deleted the article because I agreed with additionally I did read your comment on the talk page were you indicated that the site should be widely advertised because 8% of muslims in Sri Lanka use the site, Wikipedia is not a place to Advertise its an encyclopaedia. please read how to write your first article it'll be of assistance in what we require, additionally you maybe able to get specific help with the article from Wikipedia:WikiProject Sri Lanka which is a group of editors who have identified themselves as wanting to improve the coverage of articles about Sri Lanka. Gnangarra 14:07, 9 September 2009 (UTC) no[reply]

Hopefully, that explains it for you. Happy editing! --eric dilettante' (mailbox) 14:09, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gnan - Apparently you have misunderstood my explanation on the talk page. I am not trying to add this website, rather I am trying to emphasise the fact that there is a community in Sri Lanka who a getting benefitted by this site. There's no need of any advertising or spam here. This is a religious/community cause which does not have any unterior motives of advertising and gaining anything. This article is just ABOUT the site and the services it renders to the community. Is there any possibility of getting it back on with this explanation? I will try and get help from WikiProject Sri Lanka too.

Advertising or promoting a site is the same thing WP:SPAM, our standard for inclusion is WP:NOTABILITY that is If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. I do recommend talking to users at WP Sri Lanka they'll be able to assist in identifying what are the needed sources. Gnangarra 14:27, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. I have requested one of the Sri Lanka Wiki editor to help and awaiting his response. Ramomu (talk) 22:56, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to the above mentioned request:
I do agree that such a community website exists which provides the mentioned services to the people. But, as described above, the website strongly conflicts the Notability (and possibly the Spam) guidelines. Because, the website is not a site purely dedicated to the cause, as it contains factors such as marketing, job-listings, matrimonial-services and even links to other sites such as quranexplorer.com. So if we consider this as a whole, it would not fit to be an encyclopedic article (at this moment), based on the current guidelines. Just to jump out of the box; in what way will be the article be useful to wikipedia (i mean, what do we put in it)? And how can we make sure that it wont turn onto an Orphaned Article? (After all, i didnt really know the site before this request). Best regards. Rehman (talk) 05:39, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that there are two separate issues here.

  1. The view that the article was promotional (perhaps the word "advertising" is unfortunate, as it suggests only commercial promotion). If this were the only problem, then it might perhaps be remedied by rewriting the article.
  2. The view that the subject matter of the article was not notable. This is dependent on the prior existence of substantial coverage outside Wikipedia, and no amount of rewriting of the article can ever deal with this: if the subject matter is not notable then any article on this subject is likely to be deleted. It is also worth noting that lack of any indication of notability was the reason why this article was originally deleted, why it was deleted a second time, and one of the reasons why it was deleted a third time; the promotional nature of the article was a secondary issue.
