something happened with someone using my IP to evade their block, im not really sure what this is all about so I would like to be contacted with some information on the subject.

You're lucky; I stumbled on this page while reviewing recent changes. It could have been a long wait; there is nothing on this page to get an administrator's attention, and if I hadn't come across it by accident, no one would have any reason to come by.
If you get a message that you were autoblocked, please read and follow the directions on the block notice. They will tell you what you need to do to get the block reviewed by an admin (I'm not one). --barneca (talk) 00:30, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thank you for the response Barneca (i'm still new to this account stuff so please bear with me, also how to i properly reply?)

unfortunately it wasnt an autoblock it was this: "Abusing multiple accounts: used by User:Neutralizer to avoid his ban."

the block is actually on my home IP and not to my account(since i just created it after reading the block instructions so i could post a my talk message) at the of my notification of the block i was sure that no one had a wiki account within this household, since that is the case i am concerned that someone is misrepresenting themself as my IP

Well, here's the limit of my knowledge.
  1. This account User:Rayne870 isn't blocked.
  2. Try to edit the WP:Sandbox. If you can make an edit, you aren't blocked. I suspect this may be an old, stale message on your IP's user talk page, but if the block is expired, you're free to edit, and there is nothing associated with your User:Rayne870 account to make others think you're blocked. If this is what happened (my best guess), your home could be on a dynamic IP, which means your internet server changes your IP from time to time. So, it's possible the message has absolutely nothing to do with you. I don't know enough about the details to tell.
  3. If you can't edit the sandbox, then you are "autoblocked"; your underlying IP has been blocked, preventing you from editing even from an account. I believe if this is the case, when you try to edit, you will get a block message. Included in that block message are instructions for how to ask to be unblocked.
  4. If you can't edit the sandbox, and don't get a block message with details on appealing the block, I'm out of ideas. Type {{helpme}} here on your talk page, and hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along to help soon.

I just read your reply again, so I guess I was right the first time and you are autoblocked. All I can say is, try to edit another page from this account, and follow the directions on the block notice. --barneca (talk) 01:12, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ok heres what i can do, i can edit while in my account but off my account it says my IP is blocked, my roomate is also able to verify that the home IP is blocked as once i notified him he stated he cant edit either and that the IP was used by "Neutralizer". either way I am the only person in this household with a Wiki account, so there really shouldnt be anyone using our IP, especially considering our wireless should be secure with password protection, either way im going to change the password just in case but id still like to pursue information regarding what has happened. also i'll try what i can about the unblock request, thanks again Barneca

But.... I don't see any evidence you've edited any page outside your talk page. Do you have some other account? --barneca (talk) 01:27, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have never edited, honestly this is really baffling me, and i only created a user account in response to finding out my IP was blocked as once i read the unblocking instructions it seemed to point to i must have an account to request unblocking. or am i just being stupid and IP's are blocked as they are annonymous and not registered members? also i have no other account. i actually think i found out i was blocked by accidentally clicking an edit button while reading an article, im not quite sure really. its actually kind of funny, i consider myself to be quite savvy in the ways of computers and now im at a state of total confusion

OK, first things first. Please click on WP:Sandbox, and try to edit it and save it. tell me if you can or can't. --barneca (talk) 01:38, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rayne, I am the administrator who made this block. The block you are caught in was placed on a Bell Sympatico range which is used by a banned person known as Neutralizer. The blocks are anonymous only, which means that you will be able to edit if you are logged into your account. You said that you have never edited before, if you just want to read articles here, that is fine, the block does not prevent you from reading, only from editing. Also, you mentioned some security concerns, unfortunately Bell Sympatico assign their IPs dynamically which means that you get a new IP each time you log in. This is why sometimes innocent people get caught in blocks as "collateral damage" and it is also why you were caught in the block which was only aimed at the person responsible for the "Neutralizer" account and his numerous sockpuppets, not anyone else. I hope this answers your questions. I apologise for the inconvenience. Sarah 08:24, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Barneca and Sarah for your speedy response and information.
