Request reason:

Please unblock my account. I was blocked for adding my name as a candidate for President in 2012 on the page "United States presidential election, 2012". At the time I made this edit, I had just created my account, after finding the page on Wikipedia. I made the edits, which apparently were not considered appropriate, several times without knowing why it was being rejected. The emails sent to my personal email account were stopped by the spam filter at mindspring.com. I was not attempting to spam, or advertise, any more than the other candidates listed on the page were. I was simply attempting to provide information which was not displayed, and therefore made the page inaccurate by being incomplete.

I am a candidate for President of the United States in 2012, and I have made my public announcement on my campaign website (www.cain2012.org) in January of 2010, and on a Facebook webpage (Trendies Panic: Cain 2012) in March of 2010. I meet all state and federal requirements to be a candidate, even though I have not been issued an FEC ID number, because I am not collecting contributions for my campaign, or spent over $5,000 of personal funds in advertisement and campaign expenses.

I feel that my information should be listed on the page in question; however I will not attempt to edit or update that page again. I would however like to create an informational page about myself on Wikipedia, because currently anyone seeking information about "Richard Cain" on Wikipedia will be directed to a page about a corrupt Chicago police officer, which would be misleading and a disservice to my campaign, and the American people by denying them the opportunity to find out more about the candidate "Richard Cain" before the election in 2012. Denying me the ability to provide an informational page on Wikipedia might also be viewed as censorship or favoritism, as the other candidates are allowed to create informational pages about themselves. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

Thank you for your prompt attention in this matter, Richard Cain.

Decline reason:

We do not get to write about ourselves on Wikipedia, whether we be elementary school kids or candidates for President. You are incorrect that other candidates are allowed to create informational pages about themselves; when we find such a thing happening, we nip it in the bud (and it often finds its way to the media, which can be embarrassing). --jpgordon::==( o ) 18:41, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your quick response. I disagree with your decision, but I will respect it and discontinue any further attempt to use Wikipedia to inform the public of who the 2012 Presidential candidate "Richard Cain" is, or post any biographical information about myself. Sincerely, Richard Cain.

Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons

Using the subject as a self-published source Further information: WP:SELFPUB

Living persons may publish material about themselves, such as through press releases or personal websites. Such material may be used as a source only if--

it is not unduly self-serving; it does not involve claims about third parties; it does not involve claims about events not directly related to the subject; there is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity; the article is not based primarily on such sources.

These provisions do not apply to autobiographies published by reliable third-party publishing houses, because they are not self-published.

You do not address what you intend to write about other than yourself.  Sandstein  22:12, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

My intent when I logged onto my account this morning, and discovered that I was blocked, was to add my biography as written on my campaign webpage (http://www.cain2012.org/CAIN2012/Bio.html). I understand that it would need some appearance changes, and had intended to do so. One of the examples that I had intended to use for layout are listed below, specifically Charles Bolden’s layout. I felt this would be appropriate as we both share a military background, and have contributed to the Freedoms that we enjoy in this country. I am not rich, or famous, or been on the six o’clock news, yet. I was not aware that those were conditions for submitting material on Wikipedia, or for being considered a candidate in the 2012 presidential election, by Wikipedia. Those requirements were not listed on the page when I made the offending edit for which OrangeMike blocked my account:

Richard N. Cain, USAF Retired, has declared his candidacy as an independent candidate for President of the United States of America in the 2012 election, however he has not filed with the FEC because he is not seeking campaign contributions. His declaration and additional information can be found at, http://www.Cain2012.org

I have agreed to not update the page "United States presidential election, 2012", and I believe that this should satisfy the "blocking policy" as published by Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Blocking_policy). It was not my intent to damage or disrupt the page in question, but was the result of my being unfamiliar with the policy of editing the content of said page, or that I was required to hire a third party to post my Bio, as indicated by Jpgordon above when he stated "We do not get to write about ourselves on Wikipedia, whether we be elementary school kids or candidates for President." I clearly misunderstood the Wikipedia banner that states, "Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit", and was confused by the numerous other articles that appear to have been written by the people that they concern, many of whom have links on the page that I was blocked for editing.
