Edit to Frank Ocean
[edit]While neo soul is one of the genres writers have used to categorize Channel Orange (as reflected in that article), the sources you cited are both reviews of that one album, and they do not explictly say what they're being used to support. Letoile, a relatively low-key blog (WP:SPS), cites the style as a "reference point", among others such as "indie rock" and "Elton John". AV Club's review of the album only comments on Channel Orange as neo soul. Dan56 (talk) 19:15, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
I'm having difficulty seeing where the sources provided for the "R&B" designation, lack these deficiencies. They do not prove that Frank Ocean is an R&B artist. I have to ask, do you honestly not think that Frank Ocean is a Neo soul artist in any capacity? If you do, are you just unwilling to find the sources yourself? Certainly he would be considered an R&B artist first and foremost, but the neo soul elements in his music are not insignificant.--Ropo153 (talk) 19:24, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- Sources shouldnt be "found". Research the most reliable sources on Ocean, and if "neo soul" applies, it would have shown up. Nothing like Googling "Frank Ocean" with "neo soul"-kind of searching or fishing. And I didnt say his songs and albums are neo soul, I said one album is, and even in that case, the reliable sources on that topic used "R&B" more than "neo soul". I dont understand questioning the sources currently used in the infobox. The Village Voice's article calls him an "intuitive r&b stylist", Allmusic's biography of him calls him an "R&B vocalist", and NPR (albeit a review of Nostalgia, Ultra) explicitly says "R&B artist". I originally placed these sources merely as examples when looking through the dozens of other profiles/biographical articles on Ocean that happened to say "R&B". As far as my opinion goes, I wrote most of neo soul and can understand the association (unconventional black popular/vocal music, etc.), but so is PBR&B. Opinion notwithstanding, gotta stick to the sources. Dan56 (talk) 20:05, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
