James Strang

[edit]
I was wondering if you were going to throw in a sentence or two with citation(s) in the Golden Plates article about one of Strang's witnesses denying his plates?
If so, I would like to use it in the James Strang and Voree Plates articles as I feel it would add some much needed balance.
Thanks, --CABEGOD 00:39, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I initally found the information on the FAIR wiki. However, because editors are reluctant to accept it as a reliable source, I have had to contact FAIR and ask for their source of information on that particular fact. At the time I wrote this reply, I done little over two hours ago. As soon as they respond, then I will provide you with the required sources to cite it. I did some snooping and found that Samuel P. Bacon (a witness to the V-Plates) denied Strang's religious movement. But I think the best source quotes Stephen Post who examined Strang's plates and concluded that they were made from French brass. Another witnesses, Samuel Graham, said he helped to fabricate the "Plates of Laban." Getting sources for this will be difficult - as this information is not cited very well. I'll keep trying. --CABEGOD 23:22, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Routerone. Could you point me at the diff (or diffs)? I can delete them instead of deleting your talkpage, which I'd prefer not to do. TFOWR 12:29, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to say much the same, but an edit conflict got in the way. If you don't want to make this information visible you can email it to either me or TFOWR. We do not normally delete user talk pages except in exceptional circumstances. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:35, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Both Duke53 (talk · contribs) and Routerone are complaining today about the other posting on their talk page. The obvious solution is that either they agree to stay off each other's talk (and user) page or we impose a non-interaction ban. This is a long-standing problem. Dougweller (talk) 14:26, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I should have added, and Routerone can either confirm or deny this, that I don't think there is a specific diff in any case. I think it's about the exchange of posts on each other's talk page today. Look at Routerone's edit summaries. Dougweller (talk) 14:30, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if there is a diff - or diffs - I'd be more than happy to revdel it (I suspect we all would). Failing that, your proposals sound good, Dougweller. TFOWR 14:36, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Routerone, why do you respond on my talk page and not here? I note you didn't mention any diffs. Dougweller (talk) 16:31, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A diff was provided on my talkpage. As noted there, I'm not seeing anything in it that obviously merits WP:REVDEL. I agree that it would be far better to keep the discussion here, instead of spreading it out over several talkpages. TFOWR 16:37, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Having seen the diff in question I have the following to say:

  1. I don't see anything humiliating about it.
  2. It is an example of exactly the sort of reason why we don't delete user talk pages. It is a record of a discussion which conceivably there may in the future be a reason to check back on. In 99% of such cases there is never any reason to look back, but in the 1% of exceptions it can be a real inconvenience not to be able to check what was said and who by.
  3. Dougweller has, I think, got it just about right. Two editors both seem to dislike interaction with one another, so the solution is obvious. JamesBWatson (talk) 19:10, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. If they simply don't interact with each other there will be no problem. TFOWR 19:12, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
