Hello,

Please note that the Iona University logo uploaded in July 2022 has a white border around the Celtic Cross. This is not proper useage of our logo. I've uploaded an updated version without the white border but please let me know if there are any issues.

Hey Salavat! Long time no talk! It feels like forever since I asked for help from you for uploading images. I am planning on submitting an application to WP:AFC/P to become a reviewer. I had submitted an application a while ago, without any experience, which was obviously my fault, but now, I think I'm ready, but, I still can't assure that. So I came to you. Could you check my stats (xtools, pages made, logs, afd, contributions) and tell me if you think my work and experience could get my application accepted? I'd only be working in WP:VG. Regarding File:ValleyPBS logo 2020.png licensing, this specific logo only dates to the mid-1980s and has a bit more graphical content than the "simple text in a special font" aspects of the 1970s version at commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:PBS 1971 id.svg. It might still be free for various reasons, but because it's after 1977, different copyright rules apply. DMacks (talk) 15:17, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @DMacks: would it not fall under the public domain as the component parts are in the public domain themselves? The graphical "P" element of the logo is a copy from the File:PBS 1971 id.svg which is PD-US-no notice, and the text falling under PD-logo? Or does PD-US-no notice only apply each work as a whole? The central graphical logo is my concern, since it might be more than just a trivial variant of the letter from the PD 1971 text-logo. If that logo were free, then I agree that this file would be free; if not, then overall no (logo is not a de minimis component of the file). I'll take a look at the copyright registrations from that era (1978–1989 has some annoying-to-trace rules). DMacks (talk) 16:52, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking into this. I had only changed the licensing based on what had changed for the PBS logos on Commons, though there looks like there are only a few in that category which are similar to File:ValleyPBS logo 2020.png. Should I revert the licensing back to non-free in the meantime just to make sure it doesn't get transferred to Commons to early? I changed a couple of others to have the same licensing as well which will be impacted and noticed a recent discussion on another PBS logo's licensing on FFD.
