Commercial links[edit]

Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thanks. -- Donald Albury(Talk) 03:06, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Articles[edit]

Hi: if you add articles consisting only of links or redirects, they are guaranteed to be tagged for early deletion. If you want to write about something, then write about it.--Anthony.bradbury 21:35, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More spam on Pattern matching[edit]

Please stop. If you continue to use Wikipedia for advertising, you will be blocked from editing. -- Donald Albury(Talk) 01:21, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Our policy on external links is at Wikipedia:External links. We don't distinguish between different commercial links, so much as we don't like intentional promotion. If a neutral editor adds a link to a commercial page and others agree it is of use to the article, it stays. If a non-neutral (i.e., one with a vested interest) adds a link, it is almost always removed due to its promotional nature. (Note that it's considered promotional regardless of what is being promoted—companies and products definitely, but also ideologies, techniques, people, anything really.) If a link is added by a neutral editor and other editors don't think it adds to the page, then it is also removed. Generally, we rely on the sum of the opinions of masses of people to determine the quality and appropriateness of a link. Note that no-one has the authority to grant exceptions, and that a link was kept in the past has no bearing on whether it will be kept in the future. — Saxifrage 20:51, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
