February 2013[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Dlohcierekim 15:35, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

When creating my user page name, I was under the impression that the username was required to match the article I was submitting. I am new to using Wikipedia, but I am also a teacher and a writer, so I had no ill-will or intention to promote or advertise on Wikipedia. I also thought that the information on the user page had to directly relate to the article content. This was truly a misunderstanding. Please consider unblocking the userpage and editing options for me under this new user name. I can edit and work on any items on The Hamden Journal encyclopedia article that you believe needs to be edited so the article can be approved, and I am more than happy to re-work my user page information to have information about me as a person instead. Please let me know whatever I need to do on my end to remedy this issue. Thank you in advance. —The preceeding unsigned comment was added by User:Thehamdenjournal Your request is being processed. –BuickCenturyDriver 16:10, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 20:57, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible for me, under a new username, to edit my encyclopedia article without marketing language and just facts. The Hamden Journal is a prominent newspaper in Hamden, CT, and I believe a notable paper similar to the Weekly Advocates and New Haven Register who each have their own Wikipedia pages. When creating my username I was under the impression that it had to match the article I was going to submit, an honest mistake. Is there any way we can clear up this misunderstanding? Please let me know what I need to do on my end to make this happen. Thank you. -Christine Gallo

I would like to submit this page as a stub. Is that possible? Thank you!

Hello there,

Thanks for the notification. Can we go through the process to submit this page for Good News Publishing Connecticut as a Stub? Thank you!

Smalltownwritergirl87 (talk) 21:49, 8 October 2013 (UTC) Christine[reply]

Hello Smalltownwritergirl87. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Good News Publishing (Connecticut)".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Good News Publishing (Connecticut)}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Puffin Let's talk! 15:09, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
