How to leave vandalism warnings
[edit]Thanks for your recent reversion of vandalism of Sean Hannity. I noticed that you left a self-written (and appropriate) warning here. There are a number of templates available for many routine edits (see here), including vandalism notices on user talk pages (WP:UTM). For the latter templates, read the top part of the page about substitution for warnings. If you have any questions, leave me a note at my user talk page. Substitute
[edit]When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:uw-test1}} instead of {{uw-test1}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. John Reaves (talk) 01:06, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Revert as well as warn
[edit]The main point of vandalism hunting is to revert the vandalism not to warn the user. I've just had to revert the vandalism to whoopi goldberg after you warned the IP that did it. To revert on lupins filer, make sure 'non admin roll back' is ticked at the top of the page. Then on each edit that is vandalism (NOTE: IT MUST BE VANDALISM TO REVERT) click revert (its one of the buttons near warn). This will then automatically be reverted. The popup blocker must be turned off for this to occur (but I'm sure it is if your able to warn) RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 01:27, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
subst question
[edit]The use of subst (which I didn't understant at first) is to replace a template that you add with the actual words of the template in the edit box, otherwise, although you see the words of the template in the main page you've added it to, in the edit screen, just the template appears. This just simply reduces serer load because if you don't do this, every time the template changes, templates without subst are changed as well, so massive server load. From what you put on my talk page I can see what your doing wrong. Add {{subst:test2|article name}} where you replace test 2 with the template your using and article name with the article that the template is referring to. I know that sounds complex but I hope you understand! Let me know how you get on or if you need it explaining any better. Also, you need to sign all comments by adding ~~~~ to the end of each comment, cheers RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 08:47, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Do you understand what subst does now!? In simple terms, it changes the template into words in the editing section! You've given me yet another warning on my page now ;) Please please please sign all your comments on talk pages. Simply put ~~~~ after each comment RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 23:14, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I have just recently noticed that my rollback on Stephen King has reverted into a even worse thing! Sorry, this will not happen again. So, i will go and revert it now.
The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you!
