Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Soulburner. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GSS (talk|c|em) 16:31, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

A sock puppet of who? This is my only account I've registered 10 or maybe 15 years ago. I think that could be easily checked by logs. Also, I'm not having any other accounts on Wikipedia.

Decline reason:

You have admitted to undisclosed paid editing, in violation of the terms of use, and your edits constitute meatpuppetry. MER-C 12:00, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hi there! I'm going to ping the administrator who blocked your account (Yunshui) so that he/she can answer your questions above. :-) Yunshui, who is this user a sock puppet of? Is/Was there an SPI report created for this case? (Please ping me in your response here, as I'm not actively watching this page) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:43, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose those happened after somebody have removed the page of my gamedev studio Lazy Bear Games by some strange reason (saying "paid edits"). I've tried to roll back that deletion and got a ban. I suppose he's thinking I'm a sock puppet of the author of that page. That's the only reason I can imagine. Soulburner (talk) 11:05, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Also noticed that the same (Yunshui) just added the "paid edits" banner on the page of one of our games Punch Club. Don't know what's happening here, but the only reason I can imagine is that somebody dislike our studio/games and wants to wipe it out from Wikipedia. Soulburner (talk) 11:15, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Oshwah: cf BananasReborn, a confirmed paid editor employed by this company, although I'll grant that, given the timescales, that account ought to be viewed as a sock of this one, rather than the other way around. Yunshui  11:19, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Oshwah: Ok, that's a really strange situation. I know nothing about BananasReborn. This is my personal account, I've just looked at my profile and the email was confirmed on September 2007 and that's my personal email, my personal nickname I use everywhere over the internet. The email looks like the account name. The only thing I made is tried to restore the page of my company that was removed... Soulburner (talk) 11:32, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging Yunshui. See Soulburner's reply above. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:50, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I imagine this user knows BananasReborn under their Upwork username - or are you going to deny soliciting for an "Experienced writer to create Wikipedia entries about a game developer studio and their project"? Yunshui  12:34, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yunshui @Oshwah: I know nothing about Upwork and this project. I didn't order anything. But I know that can't prove anything here... Anyway, the initial reason was that I was called a puppet and banned for that. And that is totally not true and I believe my account (email verification date, geographical IP data (I'm from Russia and can't make pages in English) data can prove that. Soulburner (talk) 13:11, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In April, Lazy Bear or someone representing them posted an Upwork advert asking for the creation of a page, to which BananasReborn responded. Within 24 hours of me placing a block on BananaReborn's account, this account, which had been dormant for over three years, suddenly reappeared and recreated the page. Coincidence only goes so far, and so I am content to treat all accounts editing on behalf of your company, whether they are owned by you, someone working for you, or freelancers you have hired, as sock- (technically meat-) puppets. Yunshui  13:39, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yunshui Yesterday I was interviewing a community manager that said that we don't have a wiki page. I got surprised because I remembered we got that before. I noticed that the page was removed. I logged in my very old account and restored that page, also adding the link to the studio page on the Punch Club page. I don't know exactly how wikipedia work, I did know nothing about Upwork, about BananasReborn or his ban. Maybe I shouldn't do that (I'm not familiar with the rules). Also, if you think I'm a sock puppet of that wiki-writing professional, would that professional do such stupid thing as restoring his article using an almost empty account the day it was removed? I think only a total amateur like me could do that :) Soulburner (talk) 14:01, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Oshwah: @Yunshui: I see the decline reason saying that I have admitted ordering paid articles. That's even more strange. I believe I did not say anything like that. Сontrariwise, I said for the several times that I didn't order anything and know nothing about Upwork. Soulburner (talk) 13:00, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I believe I gave enough information trying to prove I'm not a sock puppet (please read the discussion above) Soulburner (talk) 13:00, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. kingboyk (talk) 02:35, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I have read the guide and still don't clearly understand what shall be counted as an unblock reason. I'm deeply sorry that my action was counted as making harm to the Wikipedia. The only my intense was to restore the page of my company that was removed by somebody. I agree that I shouldn't do that in THAT way (just reverting changes). I never wanted to make any harm to the Wiki or community. Also, I'm totally not a sock puppet of somebody, that's my real and only account (I'm using the same username in my twitter for example: https://twitter.com/soulburner_spb ) Soulburner (talk) 20:52, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

If your sole desire here is to edit your own company's pages, Wikipedia is not the place for you. I believe your statement that you, personally, have no other accounts. However, you cannot edit unless you show a willingness to abide by our conflict of interest guidelines. King of 02:08, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
