Energy drink

[edit]

You may not be aware of this, but the active ingredient of guarana is caffeine. I reverted the edit, and also the "most"'s, because they all are like that by the very definition of an energy drink. --Pekaje 23:10, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do a little more searching: http://www.xocoatl.org/caffeine.htm

Most energy drinks do get their energy from caffeine, but some do not. That is what makes them a new subcategory of healthy energy drinks, since some have about one sixth the sugar and zero caffeine. Its called guarana, and not caffeine for a reason.

Actually, it's called guaranine when derived from guarana, but chemically it's exactly the same as caffeine. It is no more or less healthy. Besides, Wikipedia is not a place for original research, nor the pusing of your particular POV. If you want to claim that some energy drinks are healthier than others, then you'll need plenty of reliable sources and not just the webpage of someone selling something that they claim is healther than something else. --Pekaje 07:11, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Healthy energy drinks INGREDIENTS are different and the chemical makeup is different in guarana from caffeine, evident in the desirable, slow (and therefore superior ) burn of guarana. Caffeine has an undesirable spike effect. http://science.education.nih.gov/supplements/nih2/chemicals/guide/lesson4-1.htm

Caffeine is caffeine, guarana is guarana, similar yes, different yes. That is why healthy energy drinks do not contain caffeine. I am not the one needing the research. Through with arguing. There must be an agenda here somewhere against health in the USA. I read the page where it says things must be verifiable. What I have written complies.

How can you claim them to be different, when the active molecule is identical down to the atom? --Pekaje 07:50, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reference please... I think you have an agenda and I have studied it. Guarana is more similar to Theobromine than caffeine anhydrous. >> http://www.xocoatl.org/caffeine.htm

You're linking to an article about chocolate (and from a pretty poor source), while we're talking about guarana. Please read our article about caffeine and guarana, and the references cited. Yeah, guarana has theobromine in it as well, but it has orders of magnitude more caffeine. And BTW, what agenda do you think I have? --Pekaje 08:41, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
