Hi Ssegalla. Thank you for your work on Margaret Pope (journalist and anticolonial activist). Another editor, Rosiestep, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Hi. I enjoyed learning about the journalist and anti-colonial activist Margaret Pope. I'm hoping you could add a reference for her birth in Howarden, England. I actually couldn't find any information that such a town exists/existed. But I did find a place named Hawarden in Wales, and wondered if that was her place of birth? Thanks.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Rosiestep}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Dear Rosiestep, yes, you are right. The name of the town is misspelled in the published source, which also misidentifies its location as England rather than Wales: https://www.tandfonline.com/eprint/ETBQNWPURSH98BRUEHTH/full?target=10.1080/13629387.2024.2380397
Very embarrassingly, both errors are in fact mine, as the author of the peer-reviewed article. I wish the journal's copyeditors were as thorough as you! The French archival document cited in that article says "Hawarden." I misread the rather faint type and mispelled it. I'm afraid I then found Howarden on a map, identified the location as Not Scotland, and just stupidly wrote "England."
Would you correct it, or should I? That also makes Margaret Pope Welsh and not English, most likely. But since we don't know her family background, best to change "English" to "British."
Also, if you could look to see if I acceptably edited the redirect page and the David Lange article, I'd appreciate it. Searches for "Margaret Pope" were redirecting to the "David Lange" article, making it impossible for readers to find this article or the one about Peggy Pope the American actress. So I changed the redirect and also added a clarification in the "Personal Life" section of the "David Lange" article, to the effect that Lange did not marry the anticolonial activist Margaret Pope.
Sorry for the errors-- this Margaret Pope is someone who gets mentioned a lot (or used to be) but rarely really described, until David Stenner devoted quite a few pages to her in his book, and then I picked up the trail in my article. She really deserves to have a book written about her, and my hope is that this article will inspire someone. -S Ssegalla (talk) 17:00, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
