July 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Mario Merz do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. freshacconci talktalk 18:57, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sstorr. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest, or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about following the reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  1. Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  2. Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  3. Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  4. Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. freshacconci talktalk 18:58, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for spamming or advertising. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Request reason:

To whom it may concern,

I apologize if my additions to Wikipedia seemed to be in a manner only for advertising. I work for Sperone Westwater gallery and my only intention was to direct viewers’ attention to our website that also provides background information on the artist. I was not trying to advertise our gallery but simply to provide another helpful resource for those who wish to research Mario Merz. As you can see, if you select the link, it connects you with his artist database on our website that includes all sorts of useful information such as press releases, reviews, a history of his public exhibitions, and photographs of his works.

I am very new to Wikipedia and I was unaware that I would run into a problem such as this. It was not my intention to create a conflict of interest or appear to have advertising as my aim. I would also like to add that today I began formulating a new Wikipedia page for the artist Barry X Ball who currently does not have an entry. I assure you that the information I am providing is simply a recount of the artist’s career and is written in an unbiased manner. I am not finished writing it yet so it must have appeared to the administrators that my only work on Wikipedia was adding external links. If you would prefer I can remove the links and work only on updating the exhibition information for our current artist as I have done on the Frank C. Moore entry. I hope that you will consider unblocking me as I am not trying to misuse this invaluable resource. I hope to be able to contribute in the most productive way I can in the future.

Thank you, Sstorr

Decline reason:

I work for Sperone Westwater gallery and my only intention was to direct viewers’ attention to our website. That's called "advertising", and we do not allow that on Wikipedia. --jpgordon::==( o ) 22:02, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
