I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Concord Art Association, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Hi I'm seeing that the edits I've made have already been deleted. I chose a user name to reflect that I am an artist in Concord and didn't realize it would sound like a conflict of interest. I am seeing that now & did request a name change. My question now is, How would it be possible to update the organization name to reflect how they are now known? They no longer use the Concord Art Association name (this can be seen on their website) and it causes confusion, especially since there is a Concord Art Association in California. Articles written about the organization in Concord often refer to the wrong name, etc. because the writers go to Wikipedia, etc. It would be great to have the page updated to reflect how the organization is now known. It seems fine to keep the entry name as Concord Art Association, since that is historically the name. I am not an employee of Concord Art but I am a board member. Hello, I'm an administrator here. To answer your question to 10mmsocket, we ask that all users who have a Conflict of Interest simply come to the article's talk page and leave a WP:EDITREQUEST. Be specific, say precisely what text needs changing both from what and to what, and also link to any reliable sources that allow that change to be checked and verified.

(When I started here 10+ years ago I worked at a museum and didn't then appreciate that I, too, should have declared my connection to it when I edited the article about it, or about things in its collection. It's an easy mistake to make!) However, we do ask that you change your username. You can do that either simply by registering another account and never using this one again. You can even link one to the other to show how you've changed your username. Or you can request a name change by following the instructions at WP:RENAME. You are allowed to be 'Dave at Artcon', ArtConSusan etc, but we don't want to have the feeling that some corporate account is editing its own pages with multiple people using that account.

If you could respond asap to say which path you will follow, I'll monitor this page, rather than immediately 'soft block it' which would restrict you just to editing this talk page, but not stop you requesting a name change. Man thanks, Nick Moyes (talk) 13:26, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

I'll do as you suggest, that all sounds good. I didn't know the process and didn't realize that there would be a conflict. And of course your policy makes a lot of sense. Thanks so much for explaining it.

Oh, I should add that , at a quick scan through, I couldn't see anything in the History section of the organisations website that formally showed it had changed its name at some point in the past. It made me wonder whether it was just a slight evolution to a crispier use of a name on their website, rather than a formal name change? Nick Moyes (talk) 13:51, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Good question - I believe it's part of a rebranding they did a few years ago. They started to use The Concord Center of the Visual Arts as their formal name, but mostly refer to themselves as Concord Art and that is all the branding (mugs, T-shirts, etc). It's possible that the legal name of the organization is still Concord Art Association, but I'd have to check that with the director. I'll also suggest updating the history on the website. I think that makes a lot of sense. Would that count as a verifiable source for Wikipedia purposes? Artconc (talk) 14:06, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Yes, for something as simple as renaming, that would be acceptable as a source. But be advised that Wikipedia follows what other independent sources commonly call something - we don't just change article titles because the body wants to rename itself. I think Kanye West and his change to "Ye" would be a good example, as would the eventual change of our article name on Kiev to Kyiv. Nick Moyes (talk) 14:23, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

You know, I think it makes sense to keep the article title as Concord Art Association even with the rebrand/new name. There should be a way to address the name change in the body of the text in a way that makes it clear. Thank you SO much for your help with this! It has been super interesting to learn about this process, and I have a whole new appreciation for the work that Wikipedia does. I will send edits for approval down the road. It sounds like there needs to be some website updating first. The person in charge of that is on vacation, so this goes on the To Do list. Thanks again for your help & have a great weekend!
