[edit]

Your reference for Scott Trimble is a self-published website, thus it fails as a Wikipedia:reliable source. This entry will be deleted if a proper source is not added. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 15:23, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oops. Thank you for pointing that out. I changed the reference to a different website. Stst399 (talk) 20:51, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Memory Alpha is an open wiki, thus it also fails the criteria of a reliable source; see WP:RS. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 23:09, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the reference to a printed book. It's available in libraries nationwide, including melvyl.cdlib.org. Stst399 (talk) 20:51, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK! Looks like the book is 249 pages long— the page parameter is to indicate the referenced page. Leave it blank if you don't know the page. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 21:58, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. DP76764 (Talk) 21:57, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Sushi with this edit, you may be blocked from editing. Touch Of Light (Talk / Contributions) 22:18, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear user:Dp76764, I understand that a few of those links could be considered excessive, but would you not agree that the majority of them would be of interest to someone who is reading those articles? --- Stst399

No, I do not agree that any of them were useful. Also, please review WP:SPAMMER; adding links here will not help promote sites, as Wikipedia uses nofollow on all external links, thus causing search engines to ignore them. DP76764 (Talk) 22:38, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, Dp76764. I see what you mean. That article does indeed knock off most of the links that I added. For the record, the links weren't meant for search engines (I already knew about the no-follow), but for what I thought would be a good resource. I'll rethink things in the future. Thank you.

And thanks for engaging here in discussion. I came here prepared to block this account indefinitely as a spam-only account, but your reasonableness and willingness to abide by policies and guidelines stayed my hand.
Wikipedia, like any encyclopedia, can exist just fine without any external links at all. Links are just a convenience. Contribution of content has more value than links. ~Amatulić (talk) 22:53, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, as you did at Grasshopper, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. Thomas.W (talk) 07:16, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Thomas.W, please see the conversation further up in this section. That Grasshopper link was not just added, but it was part of the earlier batch, so this issue was previously settled. I've already learned why these links are not considered proper for Wikipedia. We're all good. No need for another level of warnings.  :-) Thank you, though! --- Stst399

TO: Dp76764, Thomas.W, and Amatulic. Please take a look at a slight revision that I just made in Entomophagy. If you still don't like this kind of reference, you can remove it, but please don't block me. This was a legitimate attempt to expand upon the knowledge base here while still following proper Wikipedia etiquette. Does it look okay to you? --- Stst399
