Navy Motto
hi - i noticed your name on the us navy article talk page. i posted this question there too, but got no answer. i'm curious: i'm not finding any sources that confirm the navy motto is semper fortis. this - Naval Historical Center and this- Wiktionary say there's no official navy motto. should the navy portal template be changed to reflect that? or has 'semper fortis' been taken up to such a degree that it's 'official enough'.
just wondering. thanks for your reply. and thank you for your service. J. Van Meter (talk) 01:58, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- -thanks for the information. i won't add the citation request to the template. since i have no navy connection, (unless visits to annapolis count) i didn't want to presume to change it. although i would suggest that the navy or military workgroup people consider simply switching the template wording to "Unofficial Motto" or, if anyone can actually trace it, "Unofficial Motto since 19XX" -- that would cover (and clarify) the whole issue.
- it was more a matter of curiosity. i googled quite a bit on it and it did seem as if it had come about, in a sense, to compete with "semper fi". J. Van Meter (talk) 10:25, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
