[edit]Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
I noticed your recent edit to Firefox does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.
Edit summary content is visible in:
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! [edit]Hello, I'm HaeB. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Charles Manson, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. HaeB (talk) 09:08, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Gavin McInnes, please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category that you specified according to Wikipedia's categorization guidelines. The category being added must already exist, and must be supported by the article's verifiable content. Categories may be removed if they are deemed incorrect for the subject matter. Thank you. Uncle Dick (talk) 06:50, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Hi TYMR! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Groypers that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Uncle Dick (talk) 07:00, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Categorization
[edit]I noticed that recently you have been working on categorization. Categories on Wikipedia are hierarchical, so we do not treat them as tags. Several of your edits have had to be reverted or undone because you're putting articles into top-level categories where they are already in one (or more) subcategories. Please review WP:CATSPECIFIC. Thanks! ButlerBlog (talk) 12:23, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Also, related to that, be cautious when dealing with categories that may be contentious labels (MOS:LABEL), especially when the article is a WP:BLP. The article must clearly support the categorization. When in doubt, leave it out. See WP:BLPCAT. ButlerBlog (talk) 12:30, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Category:Neo-Nazism in the United States, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Please review and make sure you understand WP:CATSPECIFIC. You added this category as a subcategory of Category:Far-right politics in the United States, a category it already exists in by being it two existing subcategories of the tree. If you do not understand categorization, please reach out and ask - either ping me in your reponse here or reach out on my talk page. ButlerBlog (talk) 17:01, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Categorization - again
[edit]I have noticed over the past year there are still a significant number of your categorization edits that are being reverted. Two key things that seem to be missed:
- Categories are not tags, so please look to make sure the article is not already in a subcategory (even sub sub, or sub sub sub - look up/down the tree to make sure). See WP:CATSPECIFIC.
- Categories must be a defining characteristic of an article's topic. Not only have there been some reversions, I'd say that some of your category edits are marginal in this regard - I didn't revert them, but someone else might. The point is, the category should be a defining characteristic of the article, needing more than just a minor mention. See WP:CATDEFINING
Being familiar with these guidelines on categorization, and applying them to your editing approach will help you avoid future edits being reverted or undone. ButlerBlog (talk) 19:21, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 11:59, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
