Hello there!

[edit]

How's it going, Tfulp? I just had a few questions in regards to your username and apparent scope of editing interest here on Wikipedia. I was just a little concerned because your username is a pretty direct reference to the creator of Newgrounds, Tom Fulp. According to your contributions record, since 2011 you've been mainly editing in the area of NG and its founders; unless you actually are Tom Fulp, your username runs the risk of being misleading especially considering your specific editing interests, which is against policy at WP. I'd really appreciate you getting back to me on this as soon as you can so this can be cleared up, either by replying to this post or by leaving me a message on my talkpage. Cheers, BlusterBlasterkablooie! 18:23, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I'm not sure if this is the proper way to reply so let me know if there is some other way to do it. I am in fact Tom Fulp, is it ok that I was editing my own page as well as Newgrounds or is it against policy to edit your own page? Some of the info has been inaccurate for a long time so I wanted to finally address it. If you need confirmation I could email you or send you a PM on Newgrounds if you have an account name there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tfulp (talkcontribs) 18:29, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Tfulp: Thanks for getting back to me-- the best way to reply to a post someone makes on a talkpage of any sort is to make a new indent under their comment by typing : in a new line break and to sign your posts by typing ~~~~ at the end so it will automatically fill in your username and a timestamp.
Anyway, I'll certainly take your word for it, but if there's anyone who accuses you of impersonation or something of the like, you can email [1] to prove your identity. It would probably be a good idea to create a userpage for yourself disclosing who you are to avoid that kind of friction-- from what I've seen, people are more suspicious of accounts that don't have userpages or user talkpages.
Regarding your own WP article-- generally speaking, it's discouraged to directly edit WP articles that are about yourself or people you personally know IRL past fixing really obvious factual errors; if there's more general information about you or someone else you know that's encyclopedic and meets notability and verifiability criteria, another editor will be sure to come along and put it in, but aside from that, you should probably hold off on adding too much to those articles. Exceptions to the rule include if you see any evident vandalism or defamatory information about yourself or someone you know on the articles in question, in which case, you should fire off an email to WP:OTRS or ask for assistance on the WP:BLPN noticeboard after you edit out the offending content.
When it comes to the NG article, it's more of the same-- aside from making any changes to reflect clearcut fact, it's not really recommended to edit it a whole lot on your own, but you're not forbidden to touch it as long as you're not loading it full of promotional/advertising language and other crap like that. For adding more substantial content, it's best to seek out multiple editors by either taking it up on the article talkpage, or if there isn't substantial talkpage activity (which seems the case to me), going to WP:COIN, disclosing your connection to NG and requesting some extra hands on the article to help improve it.
Looking over your edits, you haven't really been editing anything in a way that infringes on COI policy, so I'd say from now on it's best to just keep an eye on your article and other people you know's articles for vandalism and obvious factual falsehoods, but to refrain from actively editing them aside from that-- best to leave that to independent editors. For the Newgrounds one, it's okay to keep doing what you're doing as long as you actively seek out other editors when it comes to adding anything that isn't a clearcut statement of fact.
If you've got any more questions, I'll be happy to answer; alternatively you can seek help at the WP:Teahouse. WP:COISELF and WP:AUTO#IFEXIST would probably be recommended reading if you wanted more information on how policy would apply to you and your connection to NG. Happy editing, BlusterBlasterkablooie! 14:23, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
