October 2023[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your edits in List of Spanish films of 2024. But for release dates, we may require reliable sources, preferably independent secondary sources, although, in absence of the former, the Spanish distributor announcing the theatrical release date in Spain may suffice, even if not ideal. Please note that comments in "comments sections" and other user-generated content are not valid sources to this end.--Asqueladd (talk) 11:57, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. First off, thanks for notifying me of my mistakes. However, after having read your edit summaries, I feel like there are some things that I should clarify about the edits.
1. The most important thing to mention is that all the new release dates I had added are sourced from FilmAffinity, which itself (most of the time) sources it from Comscore's Twitter account for movies in Spain, which is where most of the sources for theatrical release dates in Spain come from. I've chosen not to source either because FilmAffinity is Spain's equivalent of IMDb, which is not considered a reliable source on Wikipedia; and in Wikipedia's eyes it's rather dubious to source many of those dates from one Twitter account (not to mention, sometimes they do get it wrong, as I've found with Buffalo Kids after making my edit -it's actually scheduled for August 30, as stated in a paragraph dedicated to the movie in this article-).
2. In the case of Buscando a Coque, no, the source is not that comment. I didn't even know about it when I added the source. I just thought I needed a reference to prove the film existed (which, now that I think about it, is actually even worse). However, the film's page on its distributor's website mentions February 14, 2024 as the release date. As you've said, it's not preferable, but I think we can use that for this movie. On a similar fashion, Warner Bros. Spain's latest release calendar has Un mal día lo tiene cualquiera scheduled for February 9, 2024, if that's useful.
3. I don't really have an argument for Animación para adultos (the source for Buffalo Kids) because I don't read them much, but I used El Blog de Cine Español for one reference because it's one of the most popular sources for Spanish cinema news, and they've posted over the years many exclusives that turned out to be true, so I do consider them to be reliable. However, given Wikipedia's policy on blogs due to them being user-generated content (and Animación para adultos certainly has a WordPress template, which is not a good look on their reliability), I'll refrain from using either of them in the foreseeable future.
On a side note, thanks for adding the proper release date references on Menudas piezas and Políticamente incorrectos (even if Cine con Ñ's article on the latter had already included the release date, so I find the inclusion of DeAPlaneta's page of the film unnecessary - but you know more about this than I do, so who am I to judge?).
I may try to reinclude some of the newly added films with their release dates in the foreseeable future once I have the proper sources for them, but ONLY if I have the proper sources for them. In the meantime, I think we should at least put them on the 'Undetermined' section of the list, so people who look at the article can at least know they exist (you already put Buffalo Kids and Los pequeños amores there, after all). Thanks for your explanations :). I generally don't think FilmAffinity should be regarded as a reliable source. As I recall, it has user-generated (or at least, user-submitted content), not unlike imdb. I don't know how to deal with ComsCore either. After all, it is a Twitter/X account (user generated), without autentication after Elon Musk's changes. I think there is a thin yet perhaps decisive gap in reliability between Cine con Ñ (recognised for their work in the ASECAN awards) and an amateur blog such as elblogdelcineespanol. The addition of DeAPlaneta's page was indeed unnecessary and a mistake on my part as the other source already provided the date. I truly welcome adding films without clear dates (even in pre-production) to the "undetermined" section. In fact, I think it is perhaps about time of moving the entire slate of undetermined films of List of Spanish films of 2023 to the undetermined slate of List of Spanish films of 2024. Best regards.--Asqueladd (talk) 17:41, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
