Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 11:30, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Satanic verses

[edit]

FYI, I reverted your edit to Satanic verses for two reasons

  • We are not permitted to make personal comments about, or criticisms of, the authors of our sources. Ideally you would find other sources that take a different view and add those. The last resort would be to add a wp:reliable source that gives a well-founded critique of that source.
  • You may certainly challenge any assertions that lack citations. The way to do it is using template:citation needed, just append {{citation needed}} where the citation should be. If you have a convincing case that what is being said is just wrong (and not just your own opinion or "everybody knows"), then you should start a new topic at the article talk page. However in the specific case where you put {{cite book |title=No source}}, the whole paragraph had a good citation.[1] Now that you are a Wikipedia editor, you get free access to articles on Jstor and many more, via Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library, so you can go read it if you like.

Does that explain what happened? --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 11:30, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I understand.
As I am new to editing and citations on Wikipedia, I was not aware of these restrictions. I did the best I could to correct misleading or objectionable material. I will take your points into consideration for future amendments.
Thanks for taking the time of day to write to me,

You are welcome and yes, I guessed. Most people learn by trial and error.
While I think of it, another issue you might face is MOS:ISLAMHON – you can't put PBUH after the name of the Prophet. (The restriction on honorifics applies to all topics, it is just given a more detailed explanation in this case.)
You might want to look in on WP:WikiProject Islam. Welcome again to Wikipedia. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 12:37, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
