Request reason:

My edits were not done as "promotions," but were done in good-faith to make the relevant media more accessible to Wikipedia users. WP:EL asserts that "An article about a book, a musical score, or some other media should link to a site hosting a legally distributed copy of the work, so long as none of the § Restrictions on linking and § Links normally to be avoided criteria apply." Standard Ebooks is a public domain repository of public domain texts; from my perspective this practically is no different from adding a Project Gutenberg or Wikisource link. I have looked at the relevant pages and in all of those cases either no external source was linked before or the external source had proofreading/typography issues that made the Standard Ebooks source superior and more accessible. (Since the links I added were direct links to the story itself, contained on a clean HTML page, they were actually much more accessible, i.e. for screen-readers, than many of the other external links already present, including Wikisource in some ways!) If you look at my edit history you will also see that I did not merely add links to the pages but added additional information and pointed out problems I noticed, e.g. in Talk:A Lost Opportunity I pointed out that there are two duplicate articles for the same story. Please consider my intentions and understand that I am only making edits to follow the guidelines of WP:EL to make good literary resources accessible, not to "promote" anything. Now, if you don't believe that these are appropriate contributions--that's fine, I won't dispute how you should interpret your own policy. I will refrain from making such changes in the future, but at least please unblock me so that I can make other edits. All this being said I am somewhat frustrated by the assumption of bad-faith on my part here and the lack of any attempt to communicate with someone who was, to the best of their knowledge, working within the guidelines of existing policies. I do not believe that any of the pages were materially worse for having these external links added, even though the system was flagging this as "spamming." My interest here is solely in providing links to the best available source material for each of the stories. Tolstoyan (talk) 9:06 am, Today (UTC−7)

Accept reason:

As the admin who blocked you, I am going to accept this unblock request. Your editing behavior of adding external links from one site is similar to many spam/promotion only accounts that I've blocked before. However, you are right that you were not warned, and that is a factor. Maybe if I had warned you instead, you would have ceased. I also only just now noticed that Standard Ebooks is a not-for-profit, so promotion is not as likely as many of those other cases. I apologize for the block and hope you can be a positive contributor to the project. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:03, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
