It appears to me that your recent edit at Lincoln's Tomb is a cut & paste from elsewhere [1]. This is not how articles happen. Your user name suggests that you have an interest in this tomb, perhaps in others, and I hope that this interest can be used on wikipedia. However using other folk's copyrighted material is not how to do it. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 02:54, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me on my talk page. Here are some of my thoughts. Wikipedia discourages editors from editing articles that they have too close a connection too. I personally don't feel that strongly about it, though someone who does might show up. The issue is that folks who write about (1) themselves, (2) their cousin, (3) their workplace (4) their favorite actress (5) etc. often are not very objective about it. What i did at the Lincoln Tomb article was cut a section out of what you had written/posted and paste it into Google. Which then revealed that what you had posted came word-for-word from some web site. Perhaps yours, I don't remember. At that point what I usually do, and did in your case, is to Undo your edit and wait for feed back. Maybe I wrote you about it. In any case, by all means reinsert what ever you want into the article and add a reference as to where you got it. Look at some of the other referenced sections in that article (or any other article) to get how to do references if you do not already know it. Feel free to ask me for advice, suggestions, or anything else. Carptrash (talk) 00:54, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
