Fatlip, policies, explanations[edit]

Hello, TorporProductions

I have a number of items to explain to you, as you seem to be unaware of many rules, policies and customs here at Wikipedia. I hope you'll take the time to wade through all of this.

You sent me an e-mail today about on-wiki activities, when the appropriate thing to do was to post on my user talk page or, better yet, the talk page of the article in question at Talk:Fatlip. I am reproducing your mail here so any further discussion can happen on this talk page, even after you've changed to another account name (see below).

I dont understand why you keep removing my wikipedia entry for Fatlip. I am the producer of the new album and even posted a reference this time. Not sure if you checked it out, but you still took down the entry citing “no source”... are you affiliated with Fatlip in any way to be doing this? I would appreciate it you leave the entry up, as it is important to note Fatlip’s current work so that people know about the album. Thanks.

You appear to think Wikipedia is a platform for promotion, but it is not. It is not important to note Fatlip's current work so that people know about the album. In fact, it is important for us to maintain a neutral point of view and not promote any album, performer or producer.

And speaking of producer, if you are Fatlip's, then you have what we call a conflict of interest (COI) with respect to Fatlip and his works and should not be editing any of those articles yourself. Further, you should declare your COI clearly as described in this section.

But BEFORE YOU DO THAT, you should be aware of our username policy, which, unfortunately, you have violated. Your name doesn't refer to a single person, but to a company. See the section at WP:CORPNAME. You can solve the problem simply by creating another user account (which complies) and never using this one (TorporProductions) again. Then you can declare your COI wrt to Fatlip on your new account, and that'll be two problems solved.

With a declared COI, you can then request edits you want made and somebody (without the COI) can review and choose to make the edits on your behalf. See the info at Wikipedia:Edit requests#Making requests and Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request.

For the actual edit in question (finally!), I have reverted your changes again. Not just for the reasons given above, but for the same reasons I have given repeatedly in my edit summaries: we need reliable sources to fulfill our goal of verifiability, and illuminati2g.com doesn't meet that description. The text at that one page is barely English, tells us very little, and doesn't cover everything in the text you added. There is no info about a release date, for example. Moreover, an album which isn't even scheduled for release until "2022" isn't ripe for mentioning yet. It's way too soon to even raise an eyebrow over such a claim. If you are really a record producer you must be aware of how many albums get announced and then delayed, and then delayed again, and then slip some more... We needn't add blurbs and rumors and hints and whispers about all the films and songs which could be coming Real Soon Now.

I realize that's a huge bunch of text all at once, but, as I said, there seem to be several details about Wikipedia that were unknown to you. I hope things are a little clearer now. — JohnFromPinckney (talk / edits) 01:45, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

June 2021[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.
Wikipedia is not a platform to promote an unreleased album. Do that on social media. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:45, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

February 2022: more COI promotional editing, while blocked[edit]

I am in receipt of an e-mail from you from 23 February, the content of which I have pasted in its entirety below:

hey buddy, are you being serious right now? you’re still removing the information about Fatlips

latest single despite the fact that it’s literally already released on all streaming platform?! what is wrong with you??? “not reliably sourced”???? dubcnn and westcoaststyles are the 2 biggest west coast hip-hop websites on the internet. you need to get banned from editing, and if you continue removing information about songs that are already officially released, i will look into getting

you banned for basing your edits on a personal vendetta rooted in pride.

The fact that you sent this mail just hours after I reverted the latest blind (and unexplained) reversion at Fatlip by User:2600:1700:4009:8CB0:9CCF:79F9:B683:9859 confirms to me that you are indeed that IP editor.

In fact, not only are you the editor behind that IP address, it seems you have also made the following logged-out edits to Fatlip:

It might be that these are not all you; I suspect you have a friend who has helped you. But most (though not all) of these edits are identical, blind reversions adding the same promotional and poorly sourced content (while breaking other things), so I am confident that you are at least involved if not solely responsible for these edits.

Another important point, then: YOU ARE BLOCKED. If you want to edit, follow the steps above to arrange a non-promotional username and request that you be unblocked. Editing while logged out to circumvent the block is not a good idea; if you continue to do so, or if you continue to add unreliably sourced, promotional content, I will not only repeatedly revert your edits (as I have, alas, been doing all too much), but I will contact admins to see about blocking the IP range you use, so as to curtail the disruption.

As a last note, your personal assessments about some "vendetta" or pride-based editing are both inaccurate and inappropriate. — JohnFromPinckney (talk / edits) 22:29, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
