There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Basically the point here is this: If you work at UAFCFOS, you shouldn't be editing the article at all. You can and should request edits on the talk page of the article, and those requests will be reviewed by neutral editors not directly involved with the article subject. You also need to publicly disclose any financial relationship you have with an article subject. And also you simply can't use the name of an organization as your username. [edit]

Hello, I am new to Wikipedia and clearly I have approached editing the wrong way. Yes, I work for the College of Fisheries. No, I am not trying to do something bad by updating our page. I am merely trying to fix very, very outdated information (10 years old). I did not know that I wasn't supposed to have my organization's name as an account name. I was trying to be honest and disclose who I was. (Can I change the username? )

I have been in touch with someone from Wikipedia and he explained that my edits need to be posted here. I hope that you value updated information and take them into consideration. Ideally, the current text would just be replaced with this. I took a lot of time to provide links throughout this, but I see that they did not copy over. If you would like the links I can give them to you.

Here are the edits:

College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences

Beginning in 1960 as the legislatively mandated Institute of Marine Science at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences was created in 1987 to unify academic and research programs in fisheries and ocean sciences across the University of Alaska statewide system.

The School was transformed into the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) in 2016 as a result of the growing student body and number of faculty, researchers and staff; expansion of degree programs; major funded research programs; and the national responsibility of operating the global class, ice-capable research vessel Sikuliaq.

The college is one of the largest and most geographically diverse academic and research organizations in the State of Alaska. While CFOS has a strong focus on Arctic issues, faculty and students study inland waters, coastal systems and deep ocean regions from the Arctic to the Antarctic.

Academics:

  • Departments

Fisheries

Faculty and students conduct research in diverse fisheries disciplines, including genetics, biology and ecology, aquaculture, statistics, population dynamics, fisheries oceanography, economics, anthropology, seafood science and technology, and fisheries management, marine policy and resource conservation. The Department of Fisheries contributes significantly to fisheries and the fishing industry in Alaska, which are regarded as among the best managed fisheries in the world.

Marine Biology

Faculty and students in the Marine Biology Department study the ecology, physiology and biochemistry/molecular biology of marine organisms and their interaction with the environment, as well as endangered and protected species and animals of critical importance to Alaska Native subsistence communities. Marine biology faculty are important contributors to setting the research agenda and policy of marine biology–related issues, especially in Arctic ecosystems.

Oceanography

Oceanographers study how physics and chemistry impact the production of the basal elements of the ocean’s food web and, in particular, how a changing climate may lead to altered ecosystems. Faculty and research scientists in the Department of Oceanography are international experts on high-latitude ecosystems and conduct field research not only in Alaska and the Arctic, but also in the Antarctic/Southern Ocean, Greenland, the North Pacific, and elsewhere.

  • Degree programs

CFOS offers a Bachelor of Arts in Fisheries, a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, a Minor in Fisheries and a Minor in Marine Science.

The College also offers Masters of Science and PhD degrees in Fisheries, Marine Biology, and Oceanography, and a Master in Marine Studies.

Research Centers and Institutes

The UAF College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences is a regional and world-class research hub that houses centers, labs, and institutes throughout the State of Alaska.

  • Alaska Blue Economy Center
  • Center for Salmon and Society
  • Coastal Marine Institute
  • Institute of Marine Science
  • Kasitsna Bay Laboratory
  • Lena Point Fisheries Facility
  • Ocean Acidification Research Center
  • Pollock Conservation Cooperative Research Center
  • Rasmuson Fisheries Research Center

CFOS also has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward to conduct research on marine fish, birds and mammals.

R/V Sikuliaq

R/V Sikuliaq, pronounced [see-KOO-lee-auk], is a 261-foot, global class oceanographic research ship capable of taking scientists through ice up to 2.5 feet thick in polar regions. The vessel is owned by the National Science Foundation and operated by the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, as part of the U.S. academic research fleet and the international Arctic Research Icebreaker Consortium (ARICE) program.

Sikuliaq is used by scientists from the United States and the international oceanographic community through the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System. Her home port is in Seward, Alaska, at the UAF Seward Marine Center.

The vessel is designed to have the lowest possible environmental impact, including a low underwater radiated noise signature for marine mammal and fisheries work. The Community and Environmental Compliance Standard Operating Procedures (CECSOP) for R/V Sikuliaq Research Operations provides guidance on best practices for scientists that intend to use Sikuliaq to conduct research activities in Arctic and subarctic regions where coastal community residents hunt for whales, seals, walruses and other animals.

Hi @UAFCFOS:, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for making an edit request. Unfortunately, you have made the request in the wrong place; edit requests go on the talk page of the article you wish to edit. Also, the format of your request is difficult for a reviewer to implement because we are unsure about where to put the inline citations. Please read Template:Request edit/Instructions for guidance on how to make an edit request. When you are ready, post the request on the talk page of the article you want to be edited. Since you have such a large amount of information you want to add and change to the article, I suggest using your sandbox (click on me!) to show what the final article should look like and link it to your request.
I also suggest that you read Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure very carefully. This will give guidance on how to disclose your paid-editor status on Wikipedia.
I am going to close this request as "answered. If you have any questions please post below or ask your question at the Wikipedia:Help desk. Happy editing! Z1720 (talk) 01:50, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
