Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, USA Marketing and Communications. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article University of South Alabama, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies.

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 15:52, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Theroadislong, thank you for your guidance. Per your suggestion, our user name indicates our relationship to the organization, and we have only made changes to factual inaccuracies contained on the page and have added references to these changes. We also have requested review of a change to the page on the Talk page of the article. Thank you.

September 2017[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Thank you. Thank you. Our username choice was made in a good faith effort to disclose who was making the factual edits to the page. We apologize for misunderstanding the rules, but our intentions were to be transparent. We will make the required changes and disclosures, and we will use the talk page to request all future changes.

USA Marketing and Communications (talk) 16:25, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Considering this discussion and the minor changes that were made to the page, we would respectfully request review and removal of the COI flag on the University of South Alabama page. Thank you.
