Alloxan

[edit]

Please see edit-warring at alloxan, and if possible, please edit or comment on it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.5.17.170 (talk) 11:49, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Does that article really say that alloxan does not cause diabetes in humans? Where can I find that information?--211.5.15.232 (talk) 03:40, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:33, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

on hybridization of water

[edit]

Could you add the references and rewrite the section appropriately so the article looks better? You have access to the sources, and wish to see the information in the article. The section would benefit from them. Thanks!!! --Jayron32 23:42, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of a secondary source?

[edit]

To me, the definition seems clear based these excerpts from the Wikipedia policies and guidelines:

  • 1) From Secondary source: “In the sciences, a review article, book review, or meta-analysis are both examples of a secondary source. Some academic journals only publish reviews. Unlike in the humanities, scientific and medical peer reviewed sources are not generally considered secondary”
  • 2) From WP:SECONDARY: “Secondary sources are second-hand accounts … For example, a review article that analyzes research papers in a field is a secondary source for the research.”

The issue is somewhat significant because, from WP:SECONDARY: “Wikipedia articles should be based on reliable, published secondary sources and, to a lesser extent, on tertiary sources. Secondary or tertiary sources are needed to establish the topic's notability and to avoid novel interpretations …” We both know that a lot of primary sources will continue to be cited, but the implications of the definition is that reviews and texts are preferred. Looking forward to hearing your comments,--Smokefoot (talk) 01:17, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • The primary source article talks about paintings and diaries as primary sources and is inadequate. It does not deal with peer-reviewed scientific literature. Also from Secondary source: "primary sources that have been reliably published may be used in Wikipedia, but only with care, because it is easy to misuse them." Welcome back

[edit]

I hope that you had a good visit to Aussie - that is where I am now. A lot going on around here as the school term comes to an end in many places. I was surprised that we did not have a dedicated hydroboration article, so that was spun off recently from a major contribution, probably a student. This area is huge and at the limits of my expertise. --Smokefoot (talk) 00:26, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks. I hope your stay in Australia will be as good as the one I had. Yes, several articles exist related to hydroboration, I am trying to make some sense out of it. To be continued V8rik (talk) 22:25, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Circulene, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Carbon sulfide (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
