If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Vincent S. Coster, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. A tag has been placed on Vincent S. Coster requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

Explanation

[edit]

You said, "I fail to grasp why someone would decide that an article about an Irish poet is deemed not important enough. This states the true facts about a poet. I also do not understand why someone who has not read the works of this writer, and is not from Ireland should decide that someone who is part of contemporary Irish culture is not worthy of having an article.". For a start, there is no right to have an article here, and I am one of those authorised by the community to assess things based on the rules of this site, and to delete if considered appropriate. Being Irish is not of itself notable, and nor is being a poet. Being notable is a requisite for having an article on Wikipedia, and I would suggest reading WP:NPOET and WP:BIO. In both cases, the claim to notability must be backed up with reliable independent sources WP:RS. This is especially necessary when the works are self-published. Very few self-published authors get articles here, mainly because they have to deal with their own publicity and this cannot get the results a regular publisher with dedicated staff can get. Fair? Maybe not. That's the way it is. If it can be shown that your work does pass our standards for inclusion, please tell us. Unfortunately, it is easier for a rapper who can rhyme 'drug' with 'slug' and 'mug' to get an article than for a poet who knows what an ABCDBCB rhyme scheme is. (I do, because I've used it myself - it can give an interestingly interrupted flow.) I know quite a few poets, and some of them have published their own works in home-made booklets (and sold them), and others have been published in anthologies, but none would pass NPOET despite their work being of good quality. Perhaps they should turn to rap... Good luck anyway. Keep writing. Perhaps some day, the right person will see your stuff. Peridon (talk) 20:39, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
