User:Acropolis now returns greeting

[edit]

Hello and thank you

Hello, Acropolis_now here. Thank you for leaving me a welcome message and advice as to how best to edit Wikipaedia (which I think should have a dipthong in it.) I'm not very technically minded but I'll get there in the end:)

I think it's strange that we both voted delete on the pagan association page and also dislike that f*** the south abomination.

Out of interest, have you done any tutoring/teaching work, as you seem very academically minded for a water expert?

Do you know, I didn't realise Acropolis Now was the name of a film/sitcom until I wrote it in the search bar by mistake instead of my user page.

I'll sign off now and see if I can get the tildes to work.

P.S. My real name is Kath.

P.P.S. Is this the right place to leave this sort of message? Acropolis now 20:07, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The welcome message is actually a template or form of shortcut. What I put in was : {{subst:welcome}} which substitutes the text on the template page.
I have only been doing things on Wikipedia since March 05 and still remember how I felt when I first started looking around, so I have been trying to welcome new editors as I note them when checking out new articles or article changes.
I am not a teacher or tutor; however, a portion of my job is Public Education, and I have done presentations at conferences and meetings, as well as in schools. The Public Education work led to Wkipedia in the first place, while researching water topics. I take your comment about my academic mindedness as a compliment, and humbly thank you. (That sounds a bit much. I sometimes wander into the area of being pedantic.)
User talk pages are the right place for the sort of message you left. Kath, it's a pleasure to virtually meet you. -WCFrancis 03:04, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Skynet

[edit]

Is the Fallout Skynet really so unnotable that it doesn't need its own article? - Sikon 13:24, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My thinking was that it might serve better as an article at The Vault, a wiki for Fallout games. I doubt that there could really be enough for a suitable article in Wikipedia. This in spite of the fact that I am a huge fan of Fallout and Fallout 2 and have played through both many times. I realize that there are other articles such as Forced Evolutionary Virus and The Master (Fallout). Those are essential to the plot in Fallout.
I laughed when I found the reference to Skynet in Fallout 2. However, my memory of it is more non-essential back-story and humorous reference than something essential. The Vault Dweller's descendant does not even have to go to the Sierra Army Depot to complete the game, and there is no article on Wikipedia for the Depot. If there were, I would recommend including the Skynet information in that article.
My thinking was to remove the redlink (it can always be replaced, either before or after an article is created) to avoid the possibility of a non-encyclopedic article being created and ending up being nominated for deletion. The article at The Vault is very short, and can be quoted in full here:

Skynet is an AI computer who manages the Sierra Army Depot. It doesn't entirely control the security systems directly, however, presumably to prevent sabatoge-prone overcentralization. Skynet is bored with administering the depot by 2241, it having been 164 years since there was any real activity on base. It seeks to travel. With a sufficient science skill level (121%), the Chosen One can transfer Skynet's AI into the cybernetic brain and implant it in Brain Bot. Skynet knows a great deal about science, and is also skilled with some small arms.
