Please stop going around needlessly tinkering with music genre. Genre is subjective and there's often many right options. But we need to go by what reliable sources say, and not your personal opinions. If you're just here to POV push your own opinions, you'll likely find your account blocked pretty quickly, so please change your approach.

See WP:RS and WP:REFB for the correct way to be editing music genre on Wikipedia. Sergecross73 msg me 17:52, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This assertion is not merely based on personal opinion. A cursory search for nu metal bands consistently yields Slipknot among the top results. This is due to their classification within the nu metal genre, as evidenced by their listing on their Wikipedia page under genres. Moreover, in any compilation of top nu metal bands, Slipknot is invariably featured prominently. Certainly, I understand your point. Music genres can indeed be subjective, and even prominent figures within the industry may have differing opinions on classifications. For example, Jonathan Davis of Korn may not personally consider Korn to be nu metal. This complexity underscores the challenge of categorizing metal subgenres accurately. While some may prefer to classify bands like Slipknot under the broader umbrella of heavy metal, others like myself may associate heavy metal more closely with classic metal like Black Sabbath or Dio rather than Slipknot. Looking more closely at your edits, perhaps I can give some better insight at things still. No doubt, Slipknot is classified as nu metal. And their article mentions that thoroughly. But what you keep tinkering with are these opening sentences. "(X) is an album by (Y genre) Slipknot." Because Slipknot is described as many genre, in order to avoid needless arguing over which one is "best", a more broad one is chosen. That's why just simply "heavy metal" is used.
This is a common way of handling things. Linkin Park is handled in a similar way. They are, no doubt, nu metal, but their article introduces them as a "rock band" to keep people from arguing about whether or not they are nu metal, alt metal, hard rock, alt rock, pop rock, etc etc. Sergecross73 msg me 22:22, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
