Welcome to Wikipedia—and something you need to do

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm Sammi Brie, a topic editor focusing on radio and TV stations. You might appreciate I improved WFML last year!

Anyway, I have some things you really need to know.

First is that you'll need to change your username. Our username policy prohibits usernames implying shared use, including usernames that are simply names of companies or groups. Below this message is the typical longer one about this and the link to request a change of username.

Second is that you should read our conflict of interest guidelines. Again, look at the user warning below.

Third is that I have a suggestion for improving the page. In doing my research, I learned about the Davis Hall mural. Is there a way for you to take a photo of it and upload it freely to Wikimedia Commons? It'd be a nice touch. (I take it the HD subchannels were all removed, thus your update?)

Anyway, make sure to read the note below and change your username to something a bit more personal. As an editor who has improved hundreds of Wikipedia radio station pages, let me know how I can help; I have access to Newspapers.com and with it the Sun-Commercial archives, so if there's more station history that interests you (I added the start date already), I'm all ears.

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "WVUB", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 06:25, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Orange Mike | Talk 01:15, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am the General Manager for this radio station and want to update incorrect information. For instance, this is NOT a student-run radio station. I did not realize it violated any codes when I used our call letters (WVUB) as an easy username. My apologies. I am not seeking to "promote" anything, make sure that the information about this station is accurate when people find it on Wikipedia or any other site.

Decline reason:

I'm assuming you don't want "your proposed new" as part of your username- but usernames may not be email addresses. If you want to indicate your relationship with WVUB, you may format your username in a manner like "KWatson of WVUB". Please read conflict of interest and paid editing. Please tell us what will be different about your editing in the future based on these policies, and if there are other topics unrelated to your station that you want to edit about. 331dot (talk) 19:33, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
