Welcome!

[edit]

Hello Weirdfacts and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your recent contributions, such as your edit to the page San Francisco cable car system‎, seem to be advertising or for promotional purposes. Wikipedia does not allow advertising. For more information on this, please see:

If you still have questions, there is a new contributor's help page, or you can write {{helpme}} below this message along with a question and someone will be along to answer it shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia:

I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! —Darkwind (talk) 19:24, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.  You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. If you prefer to be unblocked for the purpose of changing your username to a username which complies with our username policy, so that your contributions with this username are recorded as contributions of your new username and rather than creating a new account, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice instead. Thank you. I've attempted to sort out the template above - Jeff, please read my post at the bottom about NOT using HotCat. Now you need to answer the questions below. And don't use HotCat... Or anything else. Just type, please... Peridon (talk) 21:44, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 18:44, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Your reason here I only made a change to an article that was clearly wrong and is now being looked at by someone else. When I found out I was not allowed to quote my own sources I changed it no problem. I was not trying to hide or get a backdoor link, just correct something that has be bugging me for awhile. As I use wikipedia a lot in my research I come across a lot of wrong information or facts - but I really only wanted to correct two things the other was that one of your sources in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peanut_butter is from a white supremacist website http://www33.brinkster.com/iiiii/inventions/, it is also picked up here http://www.toqonline.com/blog/black-invention-myths/ please look into this. Thank You

Decline reason:

This is a procedural decline because you don't suggest a new username. Our policy is that usernames should not appear to represent organisations, and we don't know whether Weirdfacts is an organisation or not. It's a website, so that counts as organised. I can't see any other problems, but even with a name change, you shouldn't use your own site as a source. (It can be tempting - I was looking for a source once and found an ideal one. Then I realised I'd written it - but not where I found it. Ooops! No wonder it fitted so well. Back to the search...) Peridon (talk) 10:31, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Categories

[edit]

I don't quite know why, but almost everything you post comes up in [] brackets. If you're using HotCat, please don't unless you are actually adding a Category to an article. I'll take some out as I think it's interfering with your unblock request. The [] brackets affect the things inside - without category setting they form wikilinks like Wikipedia. With category setting, and no real category, they make a mess. OK? Peridon (talk) 21:34, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

requesting name change to Jeff at WeirdfactsWeirdfacts (talk) 02:05, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

Thank You Peridon, I think I see what I was doing wrong with the posting on this page.

Daniel It was only one link and I actually put in the comment that I was linking to my own site, in case I could not. When Darkwind informed me I could not do this I looked for another source and re posted with a different reference. I was blocked after this first edit had been fixed correctly, Darkwind had already informed me I was not allowed to use my own sites as a reference and I had already fixed that error. I am now just requesting a username change to Jeff at Weirdfacts . Correct me if I am wrong but I think the rules state "usernames are acceptable if they contain a company or group name but are clearly intended to denote an individual person, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA" which I think would apply in my case. I never attempted to spam this site, just correct something that is clearly wrong. I understand your 3 points which is why I made sure on my first edit to clearly mark that it was my own site I was linking too, in case is was not allowedWeirdfacts (talk) 02:03, 1 April 2013 (UTC).[reply]
