Minor issue with the bot

[edit]

The section of DYK hook suggestions formerly known as "Expiring noms" has been changed, after a long discussion, to "Older nominations". As an unintended consequence, the Wikipedia:Did you know/DYK hook count display has been compromised slightly as it no longer properly shades the older (nee expiring) hook counts in red. Could you update the bot and/or template accordingly? Thanks. - Dravecky (talk) 23:29, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed Sorry I hadn't been on Wikipedia to see this message in the past 2 weeks. Bot is now fixed. --ThaddeusB (talk) 03:23, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not running?

[edit]

It appears that WikiStatsBOT hasn't updated in about 20 hours. Is everything okay? - Dravecky (talk) 20:11, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed - back up now. My internet connection goes down every once in a while, which crashes the bot. I don't always notice quickly when it is down, so thanks for the heads up. --ThaddeusB (talk) 20:49, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's down again. This time it might be because of the massive server lag. Shubinator (talk) 23:30, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed - your guess ws correct. It timed out this morning/afternoon when the server was lagging & wasn't restarted until just now. Thanks for the message. --ThaddeusB (talk) 23:48, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like the bot needs to be restarted, no updates for the last 24 hours. --Allen3 talk 22:04, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done - thanks for the heads up. --ThaddeusB (talk) 00:06, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The bot seems to be stuck again... --Orlady (talk) 20:00, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed - It breaks about once a week on average when I briefly lose connectivity. Sometimes I notice, sometimes I don't. Thank for alerting me as I hadn't noticed this time. It's back up now. --ThaddeusB (talk) 02:03, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bot's down. Shubinator (talk) 02:42, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It actually was running, but it is failing to pull any new data for some reason. Did the page formatting change (even slightly) within the last couple days? I'm about to head to bed now, but I'll figure out what is going on first thing in the morning. --ThaddeusB (talk) 02:46, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think there was a formatting change. Maybe it has something to do with the Wikimedia software update? Shubinator (talk) 03:02, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It was indeed the software update... They changed the way the TOC and section headers are rendered into html which caused the bot not to know what to do. It seems to work now, but the number of verified hooks seems a little low. I spot checked a few & they were correct, so I guess DYK is just receiving an unusually large amount of candidates/is a bit behind compared to what I'm used to seeing. :::Let me know if there are any further issues. --ThaddeusB (talk) 12:07, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please resume updating Wikipedia:Did you know/DYK hook count. The TOC on T:TDYK was messed up a bit, but it has been fixed now. Thanks. --PFHLai (talk) 11:38, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bot's down again. Shubinator (talk) 23:28, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notice... I was offline for a couple days at the end of January. As you have probably noticed, the bot has been back up and running for a couple days now. --ThaddeusB (talk) 04:42, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, thanks! Shubinator (talk) 06:25, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like to bot might need to be woke up ;) Calmer Waters 03:11, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WikiStatsBOT appears to be logged out

[edit]

FYI,

Based upon recent edits to Wikipedia:Did_you_know/DYK_hook_count, it appears that WikiStatsBOT is no longer logged in.(a recent example is here) As a result the bot's edits are appearing to come from an anonymous editor. This is probably due to a time out of a HTTP cookie holding session information from the bot's last login. --Allen3 talk 21:38, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was actually due to a change in the MediaWiki software that added a token requirement to the login procedure. In any case, I fixed it a little while back when someone (possibly you) left me a notice on my regular talk page. You post here was missed by me at the time. --ThaddeusB (talk) 02:45, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question about determining # of verified hooks on DYK

[edit]

I assume your bot generates the number of verified DYK hooks by whether the nomination's subsection has a 'yes'/'yesAGF' tick. Is this number at all skewed if a subsection has both a 'yes' and 'no' tick or more than one 'yes' tick? Thanks.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:42, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure it double-counts if there's more than one tick. Shubinator (talk) 03:51, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I was curious if one should keep in mind to only have one specific symbol in each subsection. By the way I think the bot is down, hasn't updated since the 25th.--NortyNort (Holla) 04:32, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's good etiquette to not touch other people's symbols, and that shouldn't change because of the bot. If you've put down more than one in a section, then yes, only the most recent should be shown. ThaddeusB's back, so hopefully he can kickstart the bot. I'm close to finishing a replacement, but I've been bogged down by RL. Shubinator (talk) 13:24, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
