Northern Ireland

[edit]

The changes you want to make have merit, but for such a controversial article you should invite consensus at talk:Northern Ireland. There is already a discussion going on there (at or near the end of it).

You must use the article summary to explain what your edit is and why you made it (if you can't make it fit in the short space allowed, use the talk page. --Red King (talk) 17:02, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I never had any doubt about your good faith. The issue was simply about how to go about editing sucessfully.
Last time I looked at talk:Northern Ireland, everyone (including me) agreed with your proposed change. For most articles, that would be enough and you could go right ahead (with an edit summary). But for the NI article (and similar contentious topic articles where it is easy for all of us to fall foul of the neutral point of view policy, it is important to invite comment on your proposed changes. This is to achieve consensus as best we can. Remember, we can only report what a notable source says; our own opinion doesn't matter.
So please don't be discouraged. Anybody can edit, you just have to WP:cite your sources. --Red King (talk) 20:46, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you have a read of this as you appear to be involved in an edit war and you can be blocked for breacing wikipedia rules thanks. BigDuncTalk 17:17, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 17:25, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
