User talk:William M. Connolley/Compliments and endorsements

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is not a user page, User:William M. Connolley is the user page. This is a page showing nothing encyclopedic and serves no purpose whatsoever on Wikipedia. Have a link to your own web page showing how much others give you compliments and endorsements, but it does not belong in an encyclopedia. If this is strictly a user page it might be fine, but since user page User:William M. Connolley already exists, what is the purpose of using space on Wikipedia for another page just to show that some people agree with him? How many user pages can one have? Can anyone make a Wikipedia page just to promote themselves just by creating a new user and calling it a 'userpage'? Is this not taking advantage? Is this what Wikipedia is about? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.103.134.239 (talkcontribs)

Please read Wikipedia:User page. This user subpage is not in encyclopedia proper. jni 11:35, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, reading Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not under self promotion seems to qualify this as a delete.

Wikipedia is not a blog, webspace provider, or social networking site. Wikipedia is not MySpace. You may not host your own website, blog, or wiki at Wikipedia. Wikipedia pages are not personal web pages. Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they may be used only to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. If you are looking to make a personal webpage or blog, please make use of one of the many free providers on the Internet. The focus of user pages should not be social networking, but rather providing a foundation for effective collaboration. Many of the policies listed here apply to your user page as well. Your user page is not a personal homepage, nor is it a blog. More importantly, your user page is not yours. It is a part of Wikipedia, and exists to make collaboration among Wikipedians easier, not for self-promotion.
