I have reverted your addition of an unsourced date of birth to Barbara Anderson (actress). In addition to Wikipedia's basic principle of citing sources (Wikipedia:Citing sources), a special need for citations applies with regard to elements of a biography of a living person (WP:BLPPRIVACY). Feel free to add a date of birth when it is accompanied by a citation to a reliable, published, non-primary source. Eddie Blick (talk) 01:49, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to fulfill this requirement, citing IMDb, but it appears that's not adequate? Wmlgage (talk) 09:50, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, IMDb is not a valid source for use as a citation in Wikipedia articles because it is user-generated. WP:IMDB has some comments about it. You might also want to look at WP:USERGENERATED, which lists some other websites that are similarly not reliable as sources. Eddie Blick (talk) 01:50, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's too bad. You do realize that many people consider the information on Wikipedia to be equally unreliable for the very same reason. Wmlgage (talk) 11:33, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and that's why citations to other Wikipedia articles are considered unreliable, just like citations to IMDb, Find a Grave, and others.
Wikipedia's user-generated status is the reason it is important to provide citations to reliable, published sources to support content of articles. If content of a Wikipedia article is cited to a reliable source, then that content should be considered reliable not because it appears in Wikipedia but because it can be verified in the content of the newspaper, book, website, or whatever the source might be. On the other hand, a Wikipedia article's content that is unsourced or cited to an unreliable source should be at least seriously questioned, if not dismissed outright.
Unfortunately, Wikipedia contains far too much unsourced and poorly sourced content. Removing it or getting it well-source is a never-ending challenge. Eddie Blick (talk) 02:06, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
