If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Malleus Fatuorum 03:59, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Malleus.

This is my first WP article, and I am still learning the ropes. I read the intricacies of speedy deletion only after I found out that my article was deleted. What I found in WP:NOTCSD is: “The following proposals for new speedy deletion criteria are frequently raised, but have repeatedly failed to gain consensus: …, Essay articles, ….”. Was not it too harsh to delete the article based on a criterion that does not enjoy a consensus? After all, the article presents important information that is substantiated by references in peer reviewed scientific journals.YeDesalu (talk) 00:12, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Am I taking the right steps in my efforts to revive the article?

Regarding "The Mental Roots of Sexual Orientation and Sexual Arousal"[edit]

Hi YeDesalu. I saw your question on User talk:DragonflySixtyseven, and I took a look at the article you submitted to Wikipedia. It certainly has a lot of potential as an article — it's very informative and could be useful. However, the reason I can see why someone would consider it an essay (rather than a proper article) is because of how you structure the article. You make assertions and you back them up with evidence. An important part of essay writing, but not best for Wikipedia articles. See Wikipedia:Neutral point of view and Wikipedia:No original research. Basically, for it to be more like a Wikipedia article, it just needs to present the facts as they appear in other sources — no synthesis of source materials. It may help if you read other science articles on Wikipedia and see how they are laid out. If you still need help, just respond here and I'll see it. harej 04:42, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Harej. Thank you for your detailed response. Almost everything that we know contains a synthesis of prior knowledge. As a researcher who has been actively involved in the area of this article, I took special care not to include in it unsubstantiated synthesis of ideas. I made sure that any synthesis of ideas has references of reliable, verifiable sources - in most cases papers published in peer reviewed scientific journals. I feel that this article complies with WP:SOURCES and WP:COS and therefore it should be re-instated. YeDesalu
