User talk:Zetback
Hi, Zetback, and welcome to Wikipedia. I came upon your work in the AfD for the article Gricel Mamery, which I supported, and hope that it is kept. However, I am concerned about the image used to illustrate the article. I note that you uploaded it with the license {{PD-self}}, which states, "I, the creator of this work, hereby release it into the public domain." But in the AfD, you stated that "the image is a scan from a weekly magazine this current issue is out of regulation and is about 7 years old". Unfortunately, if you were not the actual creator (photographer), you cannot release it to the public domain. (The act of scanning a photo from a magazine is not "creation" of a work for copyright purposes.)
I have listed the image at Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_images#25_May.
We are unable to use images on Wikipedia which are copyrighted and not released under an appropriate free license. Unless you were the photographer (in which case please accept my apology for these assumptions), you should remove the link to the photo in the article, replace it with one that really is in the public domain or was taken by you, and request deletion of the copyrighted image by adding the tag {{db-author}} on the image's page.
Thanks, and I hope you will continue to contribute. MCB 05:41, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you, very friendly of you, I do understand that if it is owned by a magazine ect. it is copyrighted, the Magazine from which this scan was taken is off circulation, and this scan I found on the internet, but as I mentioned I can offer legitimate photography which is taken by a photographer friend of mine and I also have a few other Photos which I think are legit because they were use for promotion purpouses in the internet ect.
- Thank you for your time
- Thanks for the response. Fair use (in Wikipedia policy) of promotional pictures to illustrate articles about their subject is limited, so it would be better to obtain an image where you know the source (your photographer friend) and can upload with his/her permission and a free license. Hi, you should not be putting {{pd-self}} on images that are not yours, that is false representation because it is not your picture. And if it came from a magazine it is not public domain, it does not matter if the magazine is still in print or not. See WP:C. Please provide your friend's pictures, but you must have proof that your friend allows them to be used by anyone, no matter what. See WP:IUP. Thanks, Keith D. Tyler ¶ (AMA) 17:13, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Orphaned fair use image (Image:GricelMamery1.JPG)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:GricelMamery1.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 02:44, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
